Interesting, thanks for posting.
How many survive in SA?
Are there any of these known to be in the UK?

Re: S.A. Wolseley 1000 on gumtree
Not bad at all. Better looking than some that turn up! Looks to me like the top dash rail is there. Hard to tell. Wouldn't be a '67 if a "Mk II", as it appears to be. The "Mk Is" were made into '68. (MK I and II designations were not officially used with the W-1000, but unofficially help designate Mk II-type changes that were made during the run of the Wolseley 1000s.)
I don't know what is Ryno's latest count of existing Wolseley 1000s. I've e'd him for an update.
Any in England? At least one that I know of, and possibly two. One was recently imported. The other: the owner of a Mini dealership was visiting a Mini Meet West in Florence, Oregon (2002) and was looking over my grey W-1000. He told me one had been sent to him from South Africa for restoration. He noticed the unique to W-1000 upper dash rail padding on my car and said, "So that's where that goes." He told me that the boxes of parts had the dash rail but that they didn't know where it fit so they threw it out! I don't know if that car was sold in England or shipped back to South Africa.

This is currently for sale in Wiltshire. Not a Wolseley 1000, but the South African booted Mini.

Re: S.A. Wolseley 1000 on gumtree
So the question beckons why did SA want to be such an awkward lot of buggers. I mean different fronts and backends if things weren't difficult enough putting a standard car together anyway.
Rebelling (still) against the Empire ?
And those Wolseley grilles,surely not bespoke - 1100/1300 ?
CKD ?
All said in jest BTW,no offence intended

I believe the Elf/Hornet body panel tooling went to South Africa for these hybrid Mini's when UK production ended in 1969.

Re: S.A. Wolseley 1000 on gumtree
LDR, the Wolseley 1000 grilles are standard Hornet grilles.
Mab is correct. The W-1000 didn't have the extended rear because tooling was not made for it in South Africa. They waited for the U.K. tooling which went to them after the Elf and Hornet were discontinued. By then, the W-1000 had been discontinued along with the Cooper S in a "product rationalization." I always get a chuckle out of that. Drop the W-1000 because of product rationalization and then create the Mk 3?!

And some pics of a nice unrestored Mk1 version. Hopefully can help someone doing a resto. Check out the luxurious fuel tank cover ...and the interior bonnet release knob

I can see where Wood & Pickett got there idea to cover their fuel tanks from
Is that the cable for the bonnet that you can see on the RH innerwing ?abri wrote:

The inner opening handle (chrome) looks like a early Ford Cortina item.

Re: S.A. Wolseley 1000 on gumtree
Yes, the cable running under the two chassis number plates operates the bonnet latch. Notice the lower plate with the top cut off. That is the original English chassis number plate with the England related bits cut off. It would have a standard Morris or Austin chassis number. The upper, S.A. plate, is the chassis number for the W-1000.
The door handles are not original. They would have been the standard plastic ones from that era.
Also, notice the plastic washer bottle; the bigger capacity air filter housing for the HS2; and the upper dash pad. It's hard to tell in one photo, but the dash pad is tilted down a bit. It is not the same as the late Minis. Check it out in the head-on photo of the speedometer.
The front seats are not original or have been recovered. Note the center section of the rear seat. The fronts should have the same pattern...not used in any other Minis that I'm aware of. I've been told it is the same as MGBs from the same period, but I haven't confirmed it.

Thanks and yes, lots of different details on these cars.
That upper dash pad/rail is a lot bigger than a std Mini item.
