Love the Feu d'orange ,always a lovely complement to oil/petrol/rotting carpet. Where'd you get yours ?

The air freshener was given to me by a kind gent who said it would go well in my car! Had it a couple if years now. Unfortunately it's not a real feu d'orange or it would be on ebay! Haha

The time came to get rid of the Austin. And rather than wheel it onto the street and let the local "scrap recyclers" come and get it. I thought I'd wheel it to them:D resulting in quite a few laughs!!

mg1100guy, you are a legend, that's the best laugh I've had for ages, :lol: it even beats tonight's 'big bang theory', you certainly have the will & determination to do whatever is necessary to get the maximum enjoyment from your classic car, good luck to you, sir!

It was actually an Iceland trolley! Damn strong they are too! Must be why mums go to Iceland:D

Thank you lord croker. I do indeed do what is necessary to enjoy my car. Cars are here to be driven and enjoyed:D keep tuning in as I'm sure there will be more to come;)

Ok so as you may remember the inner wing needed a bit of welding due to the suspension collapsing and crushing the bumpstop. Took it in to my mate and he put it on the lift and cracked on replacing the crushed part. You've seen the before. And this is the now.

However. As he was doing the welding there was a horrible crunche and the lift wobbled! He investigated and found this :shock:

The subframe has dropped away from the inner wing! Rusted all the way round and dropped around an inch! And that's not the worst bit. Thought we had better check the passenger side aswel. Just incase. And found this.

Shiiiit!

So my entire engine gear box and subframe was hanging on the rear mounts and small amounts of inner wing! Ill take more photos to tomorrow as he rebuilds it! Ouch hahah. Stay tuned!

my pal had a Vdp 1300 and it met it's end when the rear most front subframe mounts rotted away

Still, the engine went into my mini, so not all bad news!

I'm sure you'll have it patched up and back on the road in no time.

Love the car mate! Bad luck about the subframe mounts, just as well that you found them now rather than going over a bump and the whole frame falling off!

Your car looks great mate:D I'm after a bit of advice. When hot my oil light flickers at anything below 800 rpm. I want to change the oil pump but I've never done one on an a series lump before. Could someone run me through it please. Starting with where it is:D

MG It will most probably be your bigend and mains bearing that are worn, If it was me i would leave it alone and just make sure there is oil in and change it often, Its a complete strip down for the crank bearings ect , if it needs regrind , maybe a rebore + gaskets £500 +

Thanks for the advice! It gets regular oils and filter. I'd just like to change the oil pump for peace of mind. If it still does it then at least I know it needs a rebuild:)

I don't think it will be the pump Usually bearings on the 1100 engines ,Best way is engine/gearbox out for the pump, Maybe you post this in the Tech section to see what the others say

Never Mind all sorted!

Thought I'd share a little mod I made last week.

Start with one 95p screwdriver

And of course put it straight on the cooker to melt the blade out.

Take one ignition key. ( can you see where this is going yet?)

Cut edges down and heat until glowing red
Image

And finally drop screwdriver handle down onto glowing key and quench straight away.
