Longman head

Post by 66S »

Hi guys,
I have bought a 12G940 head that is believed to be a Longman head. Years ago, I contacted Avonbar Racing regarding another one and they kindly told me the build details and when and who it was done for. Avonbar seem to be gone but does anyone know where else I could get this info from"?

The head is marked 183 and 16.4 on the top face above the rear port, just in case somebody knows here on the forum.

Regards

183 would probably be the head number. 16.4 is the combustion chamber volume. There should be 2 other numbers a .*** which is the amount shaved off the head and a GT number specifying the type. The head number is low, so possibly there was no GT number at that time.

I had a longman head with 16.4 cc . At the time these were produced if it's got 37 inlet and 29 exhaust it could possibly be a GT14 longman . The more modified after that was the GT 17 . I think one had incline valves and the other offset valves .

I have a head fitted to my 1275 s that has the marks 16.8 (cc) .100 skim and the build no of 813.
When i put these details on the forum with some pictures the god with the name of mark 1 seemed to think the font maybe an early longman head.
You never know but with some pictures you may get your answers on here.
I am constantly amazed at the combined knowledge exist on here, it almost puts the enigma team to shame

Hi guys,
Ian kindly replied to my e-mail and although he doesn't have the original build sheet, he does have a revisit on record when it was modified to 19.5. From what he says, this was in 1976 so it must be older than that. Thanks Ian and everyone.
