Please note the screenjets that remain are the standard production type . The white tags from the seat covers are in evidence fastened to the seat frame . THIS CAR HAS THE CORRECT A NUMBER TO BE GRX 309D Has anybody got copy of International Rally Regulations for this period. They where always being updated as the speed of the cars got faster....

The (new for 66) historic Appendix J for some years is on the FIA site but 68 is the earliest English version, then 71. There is also a 66 version in French that doesn't look complete. Major changes (eg alowing free induction in Gp2) came in 70 or 71.
What do you want to check?

Yes LMM It is becoming clear that this car must be a GP2 car in its very earliest form .I,m sure the owner of the car would like to see a Build Sheet for this very important vehicle to verify every thing .

Er, yes, I mentioned it was one of 4 early 66 unarched Gp2 cars way back towards the start of the thread...
(that's the new for 66 Appendix J - all previous Gp2 cars were unarched)

Yes for along time working on bum info that this was 55D all things tied in except the internal lines I have only had a brief look at car and am due to look at car again soon. It has got a recess to front panel above alt dynamo I will have to check hole positions on bulkhead .Obviously we thought it may have had a new front panel until we found the body no So far no sign of a Build Sheet for this car. PS the shell is in reasonable condition and has not had any destructive body men near it

Just read the article in the mini cooper magazine, makes for an interesting read, appears we need to change the post title to works body shell found!

In Robert Youngs Cooper world article he states that he hopes that Paul can be persuaded to build up the the car with the 970 engine that came from Abingdon with the car. This will not be the case, as Pauls long term intention is to restore the car to its original 1275 Rally of the flowers spec. as driven by Paddy, an early group 2 spec. car. There is nothing ( as yet ) to suggest that the subframes, suspension, brakes, seats, tanks, glass, interior etc are not from that original car. We still need to locate a build sheet for the car and I will be asking Robert in the near future if, due to his good relationship with Bill Price ( who initially identified the body number ), he will approach Bill again on our behalf.
It is documented in the Mini magazine featuring Tony Arnolds car that Bill supplied a build sheet for the GRX 309D registered car that Tony built to the 66 RAC rally spec, so hopefully Robert will be eager to help us obtain one for Pauls car.

Tis a little confusing. If Paul's car had been found with a reg number that wasn't currently 'in use' I'm pretty sure the headline anywhere would be "Works car discovered" as opposed to 'works bodyshell found". Understandably no works registrar could rightly announce "Works car discovered" as there's the small matter of the other one with the legally entitled logbook !
It's a difficult subject to table, however I think we all understand that it wasn't sold from Abingdon as a bare 'ex works shell', it was the works car registered from new as GRX 309D.

A log book or V5 is not proof of ownership, it says so on them!

I was interested in some photos showing a sump guard, is this a proper works one or a Tony Fall guard? Also what wiper motor does the car have, 2 speed or single?

I would be very happy to add a copy to the main MK1 site if at all possible.
