Front number plate mounting
Were front number plates originally attached directly to the two mounting tabs on the front panel, just with self tappers or should there be a metal backing plate?

Number plates were originally attached to a black steel plate which bolted to the front panel.

You can buy them new for half that price at Mini Machine or other suppliers,
