Yeah! Great gauges! I'd never seen one before, so when one was for sale at a local show I just had to buy it!
Then another at local autojumble, again.... I'm a sucker for interesting automotive things!!

Yes the oilcheck is one of the more interesting SMITHS accessories.

I really like the SMITHS range of accessorie gauges, really nice items 8-)

Have collected a few, had a dream of building a Mini, with the complete range of gauges,
but that would mean buying another Mini

Some of the gauges are harder to find, like =

1, Fasten seatbelts.
2, Outdoor temp.
3, Clock in Black pod for dash mount,
this is identical to the dash mounted rev counter in pod, and are slightly bigger than the 2" range.

never seen one of these :?: Volvo had both in their accessorie range, and the revcounter was standard in the Volvo 123 GT.

I have a Smiths outdoor temp gauge, I almost bought a fasten belts one, but it wasn't working so decided against it...

I have a thing for switches too...

I think I may need help...

Ohh dont worry, I am probably right "up there" with you ;)

Think we need to make a thread about all the different SMITHS gauges.

Re: Garage for the JANSPEED Mini

Post by JC T ONE »

Almost finished with "project garage"

will move the JanSpeed into the garage, as this is warm & dry.
My workshop gets very cold in the winter, and I can see how good condition the Green Special Mini still is (restored back in 1996/97)

This is what it all started with =

One trip to the dump, with 3 big garbage bags, and lots of other old stuff (felt like one of those Hoarders on tv  )
Also removed 10 moving boxes - etc etc

This is what it all ended with =

The cars need some company so =

Woke up today, and saw that the storm hadnt left Denmark.
I also noticed that the strong winds & a bit of sun had dried the roads.
The forecast for the weekend said lots of snow coming, so I thought I better go for it.

It started hailing as I took out the car, but I got all the way back, with only a very short bit of damp road 8-)

She is now in her new (warm) winter garage.
Also happy to see the plan regarding 2 cars in the garage worked.

Just managed to get back to my flat, and 5 min later the snow came (big time) 8-)

Now the roads are totally covered with salt

Hope you all have a great weekend :)

Got the move done in the nick of time Jens.
It's a bit of a squeeze in there, but at least they're warm and dry which is the important thing. 8-)

Yes - always go with that "gut feeling" , there is NO way I could/would have moved her now.
It would have been on a car transporter = money out the pocket.
The roads are now filled with slushy melting snow & ice, mixed with plenty of salt

When pushed all the way foreward (with foam inbetween) can I open the boot lid fully.
So will also fit some foam on the garage door, so I can work a little on the engine too.

I will also take a thermometer over, to check just how warm the garage is ?

Take care :)

Re: GOOD NEWS - VERY HAPPY

Edit from the original post =
JC T ONE wrote:Hi all,

as you saw in my post last week, have I tried once more to contact "mr JanSpeed"

My cars second owner = the guy who send her to England for the turbo conversion.

I now found out just how shy a person he is.

No one have seen him in decades, only "hearsay" about him being spottet in Cannes / Nice or London from time to time.

His nickname in the financiel world is "The secret millionaire" the only picture of him is more than 40 years old.

Today I made a new attempt to contact him, I found the journalist who had spoken with him,
and ask if he would foreward a letter from me, and see if I can get him to contact me ?

Not much hope  but if I dont try = I will keep thinking "what if" ?

That was the story of "mr JanSpeed" aka "The secret millionaire"
pure anorak stuff, but its a part of how/why my car came about, so I wanted to share it with you guys.

I hope (atleast some of you) can put yourself in my place, and see how frustrating it is.

Jens Christian

Well just as Pete have found out with his JanSpeed Unipower / showcar, the first things one find of a cars story, isnt always the right version.
Somtimes a "hunch" gets confirmed later on, and more intersting facts turn up.

Today was THAT day 8-) = I recived a Email from mr JanSpeed aka "the secret millionare" :)

The mail confirmed the story about him spotting the engine on a pedistal.
But it was not at the Earls Court Motor Show, as I previusly have heard.

It turned out that he was in Salibury to have a Range Rover extended.
JanSpeed did many of these, and were "the place" to go for such conversions.
While there he spotted the JanSpeed A series show engine, with its turbo, on its special made pedistal/frame,
and asked about buying it for the Wood & Pickett back home in Denmark.
They agreed to selling it, and he had the car send over for the conversion to be carried out.

Mr JanSpeed lived in England at this time, so my car spend a 3 months in UK after it left JanSpeed,s workshop in Salisbury, before returning to Denmark.

After its return to Denmark, he loaned the car to a executive from his movie company.
This must have been the time some of the people I have spoken with spotted it around the city of Copenhagen, getting more & more sorry to look at.
Some have told me they saw it parked in the gutter, covered with snow & salt all through the winter.

I have now come "full circle" = established contact & communicated with all my cars previus owners.
Only had the car since winter 1999/2000 ;) but finally made it.

Thanks guys, you cant imagine how much this meant for an anorak like me.

Now I need to try and work a little more on him, to see if we can meet up ?.
I already know I wont get a picture with him & the car, but just showing it to him/take him for drive would be great.

Patience is a virtue with car research Jens and can sometimes pay dividends even after hitting several dead ends as you've found out. Well done. 8-)
