120mph speedo's
Just found one of my old diaries and note that in December 1978 I bought three 120mph 'S' speedo's for, wait for it....... £8.00

Key restoration parts for the purist because sometimes they are just the missing bit I suppose. Makes me wander why greed is the main factor in collecting anything just for shelf display.
Very sad world we live in.

Re: 120mph speedo's
I have collected many parts over the years and when I need a bit of money I sell a few . If I make a profit then what's wrong with that . It's not greed . It's knowing how to get by . I sold a mk1 s a few years ago for £6450 as a project . Made a bit of money on it and boy do I wish I never had sold it . If the fella who bought it doubles his money now then good luck to him

Re: 120mph speedo's
I totally agree with you Jay.
I have collected many parts over the years, many of which were extremely rare & unusual. I collected them because of their intrinsic interest NOT because of their value.
When I sold most of my collection about 18 months ago I sold almost everything at what I considered to be a fair price. Not once have you heard me whinge when I see folks who bought from me ebaying stuff for a massive profit. That's just the way the world works.

Maybe I didn't express myself clearly.jay weinstein wrote:please explain why you think greed is the main factor in collecting just for shelf display.
Back to collecting just for the sake of it I have a friend that has been collecting just about anything NOS and that's all fine and good.
Lately his greed has reached the point of a dirty approach on not bidding but approaching the seller and convincing them to end an auction or put a buy it now option.
Recently he won a guy over on a 120 mph 1071 speedo for a ridiculous low ball, one that I told him I was prepared to bid on to win.
Yes I know it happens all the time but he knew I needed it so why would he go behind my back "maybe greed."
We as friends always thought not to bid against each other but I guess a mans word doesn't mean diddly these days.
Call it greed, self centered selfishness, or whatever.
I just think its wrong.

Re: 120mph speedo's
Well Scott, I'll save you a set of MK1 red upper halves tail lamps. I found a few sets NOS and went out on a limb and bought them. I paid silly money for a set used that were not quite as good as I wanted. I get a set you get a set another set has been spoken for leaving one more set and a used set. Steve (CTR)
