Hello from Montreal, Canada

Post by IanMcGoo22 »

Hello Everybody

I just found this forum and joined so I thought I'd say Hi and introduce myself. My name is Ian McGee and I'm from Montreal, Canada. I have a November 1959-built Morris Mini-Minor which is restored to mostly original condition. 850 engine, magic wand gearbox, Newton Commercial replica interior, etc. It's a right-hand-drive car that was originally sold in Guildford, Surrey. I have no idea how it got to Canada, but I believe it was in the late 1970's. I've owned it since 1993. Unfortunately, I don't know what the original UK registration number was, so I haven't been able to find out any of its history. It's in good shape, but it's no concours car. I drive it regularly in the summer.

I also have a 1967 Vanden Plas Princess 4 Litre R and a 1970 Austin 1800, neither of which are on the road yet.

Cheers!
Ian

Hi Nick,

Yes, I'm pretty sure I met you at Magog in 2000 or 2003, and I may have met you at the IMM 2002 in Scotland as well if you were there. I think I bought some seatbelts from you.

Cheers!

Welcome to the forum,I spent a great summer in 98 in Montreal working on cranes down on the docks and drinking lots of beer in Hurleys bar where the bar man used to drive a TR6.Would love to go back some day.

Hi again, everybody,

Thanks for the words of welcome...

Rich, I see you like the 4 Litre R. So did I at first, but that Rolls-Royce engine has proved to be a bit of a headache due to a warped head and blown head gasket... I bought the car 4 years ago and have yet to drive it! Send me a private message if you want the whole story. It's too long to post here.

Thanks for your welcome, Jens.

Java, Hurley's is still there and if you're ever in town let me know and I'd be happy to head down there. My family is Scottish/Irish mix and it's one of my favourite pubs. I went down there in my Mini once, got a parking spot right in front of the place by pure luck, and the singer of the band that was playing started joking with me about bringing my car into the pub and parking it behind the bar!

Flygirl, I've put a pic of my car in my profile. I tried, but I can't figure out how to post it here.

Cheers!
Ian
