Dodgy email mini parts

Post by minidean »

I received an email yesterday asking me if I wanted to buy any mini parts? I asked if the guy had any stainless steel side trims and I got the following response.

Hello,
I have attached the picture of my 1963 Mk1 , i am Wrecking the complete car as parts but since you need stainless steel side trim there is no problem asking price for them is $200, as soon as i get your interest now , i will call my mechanic to get them remove , let me know if my price is OK and i will also need your complete shipping address for shipping thanks.
Hope to hear from you now.

I am located in New Jersey USA , as soon as i receive the funds now , i will pay my mechanic out of the money and order him to get the trim removed thanks.

I might be completely wrong but this seems a little dodgy to me?

Be careful!!

I seem to recall that this was in "New Jersey" last time this scam appeared. Almost sounds like Nigeria if you say it fast.

I'm surprised he's not called Brigadier General Winston Kodogo, and was a former minister of the interior of Liberia.

Or maybe he is

PS. This message wasn't sent through the MK1 forum was it?

If you want to have some fun send me his contact info. I'm a little south of Jersey and have several mini friends up that way. Of course he could be anywhere. I have a couple of power units to pick up when the weather gets better. When I stopped work back in 00 I sold off a $40,000 30 year collection of Mk1 Cooper S parts and never lost a dime. I was shipping boxes and waiting for personal checks to pass in transit. I'd be very unhappy if someone was ripping off mini owners, all my dealings have been good. Steve (CTR)

I don't know about that.... it could be one of the more upscale sections of New Jersey.... maybe Elizabeth.
Too bad you can't read the plate on the car behind....

You can search for images in Google using an image rather than just text.

Open up a new tab in your browser and go to google image search, then just drag the image you have into the search box. It will usually find a bunch of sites that have the same image on them - it also finds similar ones.

This is what it finds when given the image above.

Its a good trick to find out who has 'borrowed' your own pictures, and because it will find similar images it will sometimes find 'borrowed' images that have been altered too.

Its nice to know that there's "one of us" living in Pakistan. :)

Well, I'll be a ding dong dang! Never before did I see - nor even remotely imagine that could be done. There you go.

Thanks Tim - I might get in to this 21st Century yet :)
