I think they were mainly photos and discussion of the race car that went to Sebring, during build and subsequent history. The current Stateside owner of this very genuine car did frequent this parish some time ago as you say JC. I've very few pictures of it other than on the RAC (loads of 310 and 311D) but do have one of it on the Polish I think which I'll dig out.

Also, can anyone confirm the engine size of 309D on these events, I understand it was 970cc on the Polish ?
Thanks

Hi Dave,

yes it ran a 970cc in the Polish rally.
There is a great shot of it, in John Davenport,s book "Rally"

Brilliant Pete, thank you. The ones of Paddy on the '66 Flowers ( car no.50 ) are what I was looking for.

Quite a few differences in the cars on all three events when you look closely.

In particular, a Gp2 970S at that time would have to retain 3.5J wheels and not use arch extensions, whereas a Gp2 1275 would by then have 4.5J and arches.

Body wise I can see different stud positions for the lamp cover straps on the wings (central on the RAC car) , different bonnet details etc...possibly a spot of the usual Abingdon number plate tennis ?

GRX 309D did suffer a small amount of rear end damage on the Polish Rally and possibly some side damage as well.

Even though it was a brand new car, as there also looks to have been a crease along the drivers door which, I suppose, if it extended along the side panel would have been enough to render the shell u/s as far as BMC Comps were concerned.

OK hold on to your grab handle for a couple of previously unseen pictures

Image

Note lack of rear light lens and a small amount of damage to corner of the bumper.

This is in parc ferme at the end of the event. Unfortunately, it is a rather dark and small picture but you can make out a line through the 56 on the door and what maybe damage to the seam/lip in front of the rear wheel although the seam trim is still in place so it can't have been that bad.

Image

Mind you that is nothing compared to the damage to the Tatra!

Thanks for these new ( to me ) pics of 309 Simon. We believe this is the second GRX 309D, with a third for the 66 RAC and probably a fourth for the Sebring.....then a fifth in more recent times. Any pics. from the flowers of the original car ( Pauls ) would be of interest if you know of any ??
Regards
Dave
