4,000,000 hits & still counting
I am rather pleased to report that within the last 24 hours we have had our four millionth visitor to the MK1 Performance Conversions Site.
And I have started the massive undertaking of updating & freshening the whole MK1 site. I have been on with this for a week now & estimate that it could take as long as 6 months to complete.
Here are a couple of test pages, please let me know what you think.
http://mk1-performance-conversions.co.u ... ewmk1.html
I appreciate that the changes are pretty minimal, but as the old site was & is written on software that is over 10 years old transferring it to a newer format gives me much more flexibility in the future. The snag is that although I can import pages from the original file the new software doesn't understand them perfectly & a page that looks normal at the moment, looks like this after it has been imported & it takes a terrific amount of work to sort out.
As you can see, it;'s a bit of a mess & every link, image & file needs re doing
It will be worth it in the end though.

Re: 4,000,000 hits & still counting
Congratulations on reaching the 4 million hits milestone for the Mk1 Forum!
The new pages look very good......major software upgrades like this always seem to cause these problems with imported older files as their comes a point where it is just too difficult to make everything backwards compatible, while at the same time adopting the new things on offer that several years of progress makes available. If you leave it too long you can end up with no technical support for obsolete software packages when serious problems do occur.
Keep up the good work and thanks for all your time and efforts, as you say it will be worth it in the end!

Congrats on the amazing numbers Mark. I for one would be more than happy to chip in towards costs of software updates and other expenses incurred.

As above if you need a top up for the running of the site like we had before let us all know, now if Mark had a pound for every hit.....

Mark, I am really pleased to learn that you have regained the energy for this. I can image that refreshing the looks of the site is going to take a bit of time (it would have been easier if the site would use css styles of some sort).
Too many cars...

Just a jumble of images this end Mark but do hope you are able to sort it out, we need you!

The broadspeed page above is what the pages look like when I start to modify them, the link above the Broadspeed page goes to the new look sample. Any comments on the new look site would be appreciated.

Re: 4,000,000 hits & still counting
I like the look of the new home page mock up - I think it's the right balance between being graphically sharp and professional, but still looking as though it could have been designed 50 years ago! I like that you've resisted any temptation to make it too fussy and cluttered, and the small boxes with rounded corners for each section of course echo the Mini. I'm sure you're aware that the images chosen for several of the section boxes sit on top of and obscure the text headings - no doubt just a temp mock up. Also the images chosen for some of the sections are so small that it's not immediately clear what they are… there may be other simpler ones that could be used?

Re: 4,000,000 hits & still counting
Today the update suffered a MAJOR set back!
After spending all weekend on it and having done some 20 odd pages, some of which werre the most link intensive on the whole site the f*^**()ING datafile has become corrupt & simply crashes as soon as I open it up. So, it's back to square one
Watch this space.

Not that I know anything about it, but what software are you using?

Re: 4,000,000 hits & still counting
The problem is that it is very difficult to import the existing site & update it. The more I modified, the more unstable it became. I have started again a page at a time. You should soon start to notice changes to some of the major pages.

The main Mk1 site is looking really good, Mark. The changes to layout, etc are great.
