Jem and Marcos

Post by Vortz marcos »

Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum. I have a mini Mpi that I'm restoring. I'm a big fan of minis but I'm looking at Mini Jems and Mini Marcos. The Jem is a very good looking car, a bit more rounded. I used to own a marcos a few years ago, chassis 6143 and instantly regretted it. So my next project will be a Jem or a Marcos. All I have to do is get the cash together for one. I know the marcos is still available new but what of the jem. I dug out a back issue of mini world mag from the mid 90s and it said the moulds belonged to some one in the club, but a long time has passed since then. I tried to join the marcos forum but can't. Is it possible to buy a new jem?

There is some good info about the MMs and Jems on the Mini Marcos owner club website. The MM Mk6 is still available as a kit from Marcos Heritage in Wiltshire, not sure how easy it will be to build this to comply with current standards in the UK.

The MMOC website mentions that the Jem moulds still exist (Harlequin Kit Cars) but I don't think any have been produced for quite a while, and the problem here is likely to be getting hold of a laminated windscreen to fit a Jem.

jems have not been made since about 1975, I would say that they will not be made in the near future, You can view the Mini Marcos club as a guest and there is a lot of info about the history of both cars, look at the mini Jem plus , you will find all the info of the car from the start to the end , They made few under licence In OZ ,If you join the club , you would get a magazine 4 times a year and often people selling there cars sell them through the club, otherwise eBay , but they are quite rare, a few in Australia, New Zealand , Japan , I think USA and the French love them,
I am restoring a Jem at the moment, I owned one first time round in 1968.
Good luck with your search ,They do pop up , but are getting quite expensive , but that goes for all mini's

A mate of mine Mike Youles had a couple of these, I know one was a racer, don't know about the other one.

Very nice variants!

Ogles are now produced by Nostalgia Cars and the f/glass is much stronger than the originals
the met blue one that raced at Goodwood is a reshell of an original sales brochure car

One was advertised for £16K recently that was a decent useable example, not restored, don't know what it went for. Hard to value though as so few ever appear for sale. I'd say it'd need to be a pretty top car for that money.

Is this the one which is (or at least was) red, and raced in the SMRC historics championship by George Leitch until a few years ago?

Great car, and I remember following it through Edinburgh on my commute one morning, a few days after watching it race at Knockhill.

Mikes cars will be beautiful, he has a superb eye for detail & makes a superb job of everything he does.

As far as value is concerned, I am afraid I have no idea.

I knew the mk6 Marcos was available but I prefer the look of the mk 1-3. I tried to join the marcos forum but I guess you need to join the club to join the forum. I was really interested in that marcos that was recently on ebay but it went for a lot. As for Jems, it would be great if someone made them again like they have for the ogle. At the moment I will keep saving for one. It would seem that I missed that Jem that was for sale on the mini forum as that would have Been ideal for me.

I think you may need to have a MM, Jem, or other mini based kit car before joining the MM Forum.

But if you have any questions you can post on here, and are likely to get a sensible reply. Just about everything apart from the bodyshell is the same and there are quite a few Mk1 Forum members with MMs.
