Kumho 10" tyres

Post by cookie1071 »

Anybody tried these?

KUMHO 145/80R10 69T

Not sure if there's a UK agent for them but there's a set on ebay at the moment. The ones they do for bigger rims are also good to the extent that some of the rally boys use them on tarmac events.

Got a pair on the back of my MK 2. Not used in anger though so can't say if they are "up to the job".

I'm about to once I get my shell back.

According to the blurb I will be in some esteemed company;

"Quality car tyre that delivers good mileage, even wear, low noise, and improved wet handling and traction. ESCOT design technology for excellent uniformity and performance. these tyres are fitted as original equipment on, Hyundai Accent and Getz, Daewoo Lanos, and the Kia Optima"

I my 66 had a worked head, 1340, 286 cam and wore various 5.20s and 145s for a while. Kumho were the best of them. Driven hard, none really lasted over about 2 weeks of spirited driving. Call it about 40 hours use.

Kumho are the best of the "budget" tyres in my experience. If you can get them for a reasonable price I'd say go for them. You're very limited what you can get in that size now.

I have them on my supercharged 59. They seem very good indeed, especially in the wet. Nowadays Korean tyre makers Kumho and Hankook are in the league of 'proper' tyre manufacturers, with their products often an OE fitment on decent new cars.

I think a powerful mini on 145s seems to handle/drift/flow better than one on 165s. (on the road).

I used to be very comfortable with 4 wheel drifts and it was very predictable and smooth in it's manner.

Yes indeed Falkens are like slicks in the wet, and not much better in the dry if you push 'em !

I'm sure that these cheap sounding tyres will get better and better. I bought a Suzuki GT750 (Kettle) in the 80's and it came with a pair of nasty Yokohama tyres, despite them being fairly new I still replaced them with Avon RoadRunners. Now Yoko's are fantastic. Couldn't chance it at the time though.

I recall reading somewhere that Kumho make Marshall tyres. There seems to be plenty of Marshall tyres out there. Even the treads have a similar pattern.
