71 mk3 - Retro Racer
Hello all
I've started this project a few years ago... I don´t like to remember how long I'm working on this car... because it remembers me for how long I do not ride my mini's...
Here are some pictures of the project beginning, I hope you like it... since its not a mk1. This is a S from 71, built to Race just for fun!
It all began with the trip to my garage....

I have seen the finished car and the build photographs
My Friend your car beautiful indeed, an inspiration for all MK3 fans.
Would be nice to see it at the MK1 trackday in May

Hello Pad,
Thank you for your kind words very good to know you appreciate it!
Well I'm in Portugal, It will not be easy to take it to the trackday in May...
I'm now waiting for some event here in Portugal to test the car.
What will you do with your mk3? it will be a racer project or a 100% original?

I made a little 3/4" alloy spacer that goes between the body work and the terry spring.
it stops the spring from rubbing on the paint

Paint rubbed off is lighter than a spacer Rich. Such details are the reason for you never being competitive....rich@minispares.com wrote:I made a little 3/4" alloy spacer that goes between the body work and the terry spring.

Hi!
Rich I used some 3M clear tape used on Helicopters, available on ebay... not so light weight like Vegard option, but it protects he body work!
I will keep the pictures flowing for sure!
Thank you all!

Re: 71 mk3 - Retro Racer
Thanks Guys
This project started a few years back, I those early days, I starred with the engine, only after I prepare the shell and started to putt all together.
In the beginning my idea was to build something like a Miglia car... but then I got in love with the retro look and turn around tho with the project.
I'm sorry for my bad English...

great work on the car. looking great, nice and neat.
question
where did you get the windage tray from. the metal plate in the sump. do they work well in a mini, ive used them in V8's etc but never in a mini engine before.
