V5 debacle
Just thought I would give a brief insight into how something can go wrong. My latest 850 project was coming to completion so I set about getting the V5 issued, quick chat with bill [59 register] all paperwork and photos etc done and sent, V5 arrives within a week,, joy !!, NOT, wrong reg number, 5534 FM, instead of 5534 FH, return to swansea for their mistake to be put right, 2 weeks later V5 arrives back, 5534 FH correct, chassis number typed wrong prefix s is a 5, return to Swansea for their mistake to be put right, 2 weeks later V5 arrives back, get car mot"d and go to tax it, " that is just £140 please" says mr post office operative, yep, historic on the V5, PLG on computer system, phone call to Swansea, many apologies and suggest send V5, MOT and insurance to have the taxation class changed and a tax disc issued all at one go. 4 weeks later nothing, phone call, much hot potato and book passing much wasting my fecking time , and finally they admit to loosing my insurance doc and mot !!!!!!!!!!!!, send duplicates to a specific person at Swansea . This week takes the biscuit, V5 arrives Monday [ all correct] my "lost" ORIGINAL mot arrives on tues in a hand written envelope with a second class stamp, as does my"lost" ORIGINAL insurance document in another envelope, pre-paid, but hand written , today, a tax disc in a dvla envelope.
It doesn't end there, my boss took a phone call on my behalf at work, and was told my copy mot and copy insurance document are on their way back, and don't worry if they are not in the same envelope , totally bloody mental, that message was from a Geordie called Geoff !!!!!! . Anyhow, all ok now, V5,TAX AND MOT, the car is complete, what a relief, have to say the only part that went well was bill"s [59 register] work, it seems to me that ,as with most things, the red tape has got in one huge knot and it wont be long until a legitimate v5 application gets lost forever and consequently a car lost , i would love to see how close the dvla computer is to meltdown, i suspect next week probably
as a footnote, the staff, apart from the twit who would not admit they had lost my documents, i dealt with at dvla were really really good, i got them ringing me back, and got direct lines to deal with one person, i think its fair to say their hands are tied by the powers above them, using the red tape left over from the knot i referred to,

Re: V5 debacle
It is a farce, isn't it? But I also had them lose the complete documentation file thet they for some reason required to see for an original Cobra I was registering (Never did discover why they wanted to see it all......) anyway, it had to be originals, and guess what? Yup. Lost.
Anyway, after a couple of weeks of getting pushed from pillar to post I eventually got put through to a guy who obviously knew classics and he said "Right, leave it with me." the next day he rang me back to say it would all be in a recorded delivery to me that night along with the V5c, tax disk etc. Very appologietic.
He said sometimes it just takes somone to get up off their arse and go and actually look in everyone elses files and trays, rather than each person just saying it's not in theirs!
I offered him a run in the car as thanks and he sounded so guted that he was in Swansea

Re: V5 debacle
Bureaucracy in action, brilliant ! You put a foot wrong with your car tax / insurance / SORN though and you'll definately hear about it pronto.
I'm impressed you got direct lines though, I remember the debacle of my V765 application some years ago when I couldn't call my local VRO (still can't I don't think) but you could call DVLA and eventually once a human picks the phone up ask them to send your VRO an email to ask them to call you and then you'd probably/possibly get a call at some point in the day. This happened several times and always took quite a while to get answers to questions.

Bloody hell Jon, what a fiasco. Must've been starting to think it wasn't going to happen.
Bet you were on the verge of trying to tear your hair out....
So will we see it out and about now?

Re: V5 debacle
what you need is a local office, where you can take the documents and have them inspected and stamped there. no messing.....
oh yeah right, they have just all shut down!
the golden rule with the main dvla is photocopy EVERYTHING, send everything SILVER12 (never mind the cost, its the only trackable service the post office do that trusted)
too be fair to the dvla at the moment, I just don't think the staff can cope with the huge influx of work since all the local offices went, ive been waiting two months for a tax refund.

Re: V5 debacle
They really have been completely incompetent (even for the DVLA!) over this whole episode.
Sorry I couldn't more to prevent the issues. I have to say they were always very apologetic on the phone but its scant consolation each time they mess up. Just be thankful they haven't centralised everything at Swansea and done away with the local offices! Oh wait!!

You'll have to get a 4 poster in the barn and start double decking!

Re: V5 debacle
totally agree mark, when work have to do the cherished transfers on new cars it is taking up to 5 or 6 weeks!!, a driver used to go once a week to the carlisle office and do how ever many in one go, 2 hours max round trip, customers hate waiting, so this situation is a pain for everyone. This will only get worse as the regional offices have now closed.

Re: V5 debacle
Nothing is unbelievable regarding DVLA. They sent me a V5c for a car, then a few weeks later they sent another one and now I have just received a 3rd one. All identical. With the local offices now closed it can only get worse I fear.UNBELIEVABLE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,
