Pounds Shillings & Pence
Yes, in the days when we had proper money, 240 pence to the pound, 20 shillings to the pound, 12 pence to the shilling, and when a sixpence was a sixpence, and not 2 1/2p, and with thrupenny bits? - don't get me started! From the days when money made sense, maybe...

GOB = good old boy (in Bedfordshire)

paradoxically the expression "old boy" here, actually means a male of 18 years or below. :?

During the trials held at the Old Bailey following the 1990 World Cup riot in Bedford, the judge had to get a translator in not for Italian/English but for Bedfordshire/English (I'm not making this up!)......

"........Well, this bunch of old boys turned up at the Cross Keys and this young old boy (12-14 probably) hit this other old boy (Italian, 16-17) with a ratchet spanner. Then a whole load of old boys poured out of the snug and started on this other bunch of old boys......."

One from dating sites usually, GSOH - good sense of humour. Also needed when you find out that that car you bought to restore might take a bit more than a couple of months to be back looking as new. Also required by saids wife/husband/partner(!).

POSH: Port Outbound, Starboard Home.

CONDEM, as in unrepairable, as in condemned, as in call in the scrappies, as in "it was an ambitious restoration project anyway, after all!".

Mini = BMC/BL Mini

MINI / BINI / Bini = BMW MINI

WTF / WTH = expression when being amazed about DPO's 'restoration' skills

Bjulee (or any other ways to spell it) = National Mini Cooper Day in Beaulieu, New Forest, UK

FJ = Formula Junior - identification detail for first 1071S engines

163, 177, 333, 1805, 521, D-tops, FJ, ... = anorak abbreviations for Mini part identification

848, 970, 997, 998, 1071, 1098, 1275 = I'm not going to explain these

33EJB, 621AOK = the only Mini's that non-Mini enthausiasts may know about

Bay = Ebay

KISS = Keep It Simple Stupid! - well known by engineers of many disciplines to stress that complex solutions to a problem are not always the best. Example: BINI

The earlier mentioned RTFM is a well known abbreviation as an answer to all computer / electronic device related problems even if the 'M' is non-existing or on a CD / the internet that you cannot access because you computer is not working properly.

POM is actually Pom - a shortening of pomegranate - the red coloured fruit that British people turned into when they came to our sunny climes. POSH is the sunny side of the ship each direction

My favourite abrieviation is K - a shortening of OK for the txt generation. Really saves time that one!
