Something for the computer geeks

Post by mk1 »

Well, its finally happened. The Forum has once again reached its monthly limit only 1/2 way through the month. I have therefore had to bite the bullet & buy more band width.

I have reproduced a couple of the usage graphs for anyone who may have a passing interest. We all know that there are a lot of people who visit the forum but never post, it is surprising just how many though.

And for anyone who doubts that this is a truly international forum, here's some food for thought.

Thanks for sticking with the MK1 forum & making it a very special place where everyone is welcome.

Maybe the subject has already been discussed, but why don't you put an mini-related ad banner ? You can use adsense, or ask to several mini parts suppliers. I guess some would be delighted to help and have an ad on the forum..

Great news Mark ! The only decent Mini forum around, but hey...we knew that already ! :D

By the way folks, we've been contacted by two major indoor classic car shows to put on displays next year if anyone's up for that.

Mark - I know you're dead set against it BUT sooner or later you will need to claw some cash in so

I would like to run a small ad for my company on a seperate advertisers page as im sure many others would.

I do see some folk with a nice banner as a signature advertising their company for free at the bottom of every post - Im not into the banners everywhere but i think if a business wants to make a little cash from a captive audience then a small fee is to be expected.

So - i have 2 companies ready and waiting to run a small ad

Other than that its great that theres so many fans of the MK1 site, bet the MCR are well jealous......(Sorry private dig there)

Great work Mark, as usual.

As Pad says, the odd banner would seem the logical answer, or membership / donations.

More than happy to contribute to this great site.

I personally would prefer not to see any paid for ads, everyone else has them and it's a pain if I am honest.

No ad's maybe one of the subtle reasons the site is so good, quite apart from the unique contributions and content. :D

However in recognition and appreciation of the costs and work involved, to keep it ad free, I am happy, as I have done before, to make a donation via paypal as a payment to family or friends, so no costs involved on either side. ;)

It allows anyone to contribute to a level that they feel is appropriate, I will kick it off today with £20, with Marks' permission. :?:

It works for Wikipedia and lots of other successful ad-free websites. :)

Thank you for the kind suggestions, but just at the moment I would rather NOT either have adds or do a whip round, this is for very personal reasons.

Yesterday I heard that my Dad has died, unfortunately this was while he & my Mum were on holiday in China, so just at the moment I need to be able to concentrate on family matters rather than thanking members for donations to the site.

Mark
That is such sad news and our thoughts are with you and your family.

I fully understand your situation at the moment. However You do not need to thank anyone for contributions, if you decide to accept them, it is us that should be thanking you.

Kind regards and best wishes Trevor Melanie and Alex
