Stupid & uninteligable abreviations that we use

We like all enthusiasts use an amazing number of abbreviations, acronyms & general gobbledygook, ad the ones that you use here.

Please try & stick to the format below so I can compile a list sometime in the future.

NOS = New Old Stock (Original parts from the 1960's, or whenever. Usually still in box & as a consequence, very expensive).

CKD - Complete Knock Down (A kit of parts to build a mini, these were exported as kits and assembled in foreign countries to avoid paying punitive rates of import duty.

Sprint = A Mini that has been chopped down usually having had between 1.5 & 2" taken out of both the body line & the window line. These were developed by Neville Trickett in the 60's and are offered by a few skilled people to this day. Nev's are still the best though!

MOWOG = Not the name of the Gorilla who tightened the flywheel bolts in the factory, but MOrris WOlsley Garages. A consortium that pre dates BMC that was founded by Lord Nuffield of Morris fame. Supplied & sourced many parts to BMC in the 50's & 60's.

Anorak = A person who is totally obsessed by details, usually to the detriment of the overall picture. This comes from the train spotter who can be seen on the end of station platforms in the UK noting down engine numbers.

Rivet Counter = See Anorak.

Purist = Someone who believes that originality is best & that modifying cars to any extent only reduces the interest & value.

Ratchet=slightly bigger than a mouse shit

Knockometer. Also known as Persuader or Hammer. Comes in varying sizes from 1 to 10.
One of the most adaptable and missused tools available.

Regarding the definition of LSD in currency terms, the L stands for Librae, derived from Libra, the Latin for pound.

LSD = librae, solidi, denarii the original duodecimal currency.

Pound is used as in monetary terms as it relates to the value of one pound of sterling silver, hence also the term "sterling" for UK currency.

The armed forces have always been well into acronyms. The one that sticks in my mind is KISS - keep it simple and stupid. And there is also 7P's - piss poor preperation produces piss poor performance. All good stuff.
