Austin Ranger???

Post by Red Mist »

Never seen one of these before, but after a quick Google search I've learned something new!

Anybody know about them?

This is a UK reg model for sale not too far from me.

Yup, The Ranger was 1100 / 1300 based as opposed to Mini based.

Don't really know much else though.

I remember going to look at one about 10 years ago or so (IIRC it was near Ballymena / Ballymoney).

It was a 6 wheel version and was in very poor condition, but had Morris 1300GT (was registered as a Morris IIRC) running gear, full dash, wheels and Dunlop-style hubcaps - the whole shebang.

Kinda wish I'd bought it, but at the time I was looking for a Mini Cooper and not a kitcar.

I've got a Ranger red one also registered in 1965 but as a MG 1100.
Had it on the road and was fantastic to drive but dreadful in the rain!
Chassis frame is made from 1 inch box and arc welded together!
Fibre glass body which hairline cracks everywhere.
Very quick with a 1275 unit in it but you will have to make up an engine steady!
Go for it and have some fun :D

There used to be (about thirty years ago) one of these in Rugby with 12" Rosepetals on it!

One of these horrors used to pass my school bus stop every day, the floppy doors were a problem as they would fall of and then get run over by the following cars, another shinning example of Britain's shed engineering
