Just been to see Rush, great shame true story of 1976 British GP is not portrayed. Lauds on pole, Hunt alongside, Clay Regazzoni on second row beats Hunt to Paddock Hill bend but hits Lauda's car and spins to a halt, then chaos so race is red flagged. Hunt is initially not allowed to restart race as he had returned to the pits via the access from the straight behind the pits and so not completed the first lap. The crowd chanting Hunt's name persuade organisers to let him start as they fear crowd trouble. Hunt wins race, Ferrari protest the result and by September Hunt is disqualified although I think the initial disqualification was the Wednesday after the race. How do I know this, well I was on the stand at Paddock Hill bend!

Yes the truth is often not at the top of the director's/writer's list of priorities when it comes to Hollywood movies I'm afraid. That's the worst thing about watching fact based movies on a subject you know about. I could go on about '24 Hour Party People' but I won't ruin a good thread.

No it certainly doesn't! Daniel Bruhl portrays Lauda very well and really looks like him at times. Chris Hemsworth not quite as good as Hunt.
They filmed Noel Durdant-Hollamby's Police car OKD 698F for Brands Hatch sequences but it doesn't appear in the film.

It's a very good film, but remember it's a film based around a true story not 'the documentary of the 1976 season', wife who's no idea about the history loved it and the way they showed the rela people at the end was a nice touch....

Yes that was unexpected and a nice touch as you say, made me realise how well Daniel Bruhl had portrayed Niki Lauda.
Still feel that the atmosphere at Brands was something very special that day and would have added to the film, especially the fact that Hunt was subsequently disqualified which is not included.

My wife liked it too. The film won't win any Oscars but for a film that involves cars, it has to be several leagues above fast and the furious type cr*p ! I wouldn't put anyone off going to see it.

Apart from all those bad B movie actors, obvius computer animation, poor storybook (s)
fawlty spec cars = 20 speed gear boxes, etc etc
Not seen a whole film, only trailer clip,s on TV & half of the first one on tv (fell asleep)

Went to see it last night. I thought it was a pretty good movie, although not 100% accurate at times, but still a very good watch. Hunt's Mini featured a lot - I'm guessing it was meant to be Mk1, but is a Mk3 shell with Mk1-alike bits. Still pretty cool though.

Looked like Hunts Mini had the single post headrest style seats , and a 76 onwards heater too .

Dont look too hard at the back grounds , you mind find brands hatch track and trees without leaves at summer European GP's . Looking down the Paul Ricard pit straight from start line with pits on left looked like Brands too.
I am being picky and could well be wrong . Must be a nightmare finding backdrop locations .

I also think the guy playing Lauda was good and i agree it was nice to see real pics of Hunt and Lauda at the end .
The film is worth a watch, especially if you grew up watching late 70's 80's Grand Prix with dad like I did . Go and watch it .

I seam to remember when James Hunt passed away he had an A35 van and a Mercedes 450 SEL 6.9, which was on bricks. I guess the Mercedes was bought just after 1976. No idea on the van though.

PS Not seen the film yet as I will most likely pick holes in the story.

PPS As the Mini used in the film has a rear fog light I guess it is a post April 1980 registered car.

I seam to remember when James Hunt passed away he had an A35 van and a Mercedes 450 SEL 6.9, which was on bricks. I guess the Mercedes was bought just after 1976. No idea on the van though.

In magazine interviews at the time James Hunt said he had won or been presented with the Mercedes 450 (then on bricks) during his F1 career. The A35 Van was said to be his preferred mode of everyday transport as he could have fun using his driving skills on the limit at speeds of only around 30mph or so around town without any danger of loosing his licence, especially in the wet!......whereas in an expensive modern sports car he needed to be travelling at highly illegal road speeds to get the same driving fun and enjoyment. I think both cars were sold at a classic car auction after his death.

Out of all the 1960's minis in this country how did they find that one ?
I am not knocking the car used , it looks fab apart from the hudderfield spares wheel centres .

These things happen though , there has been a 1978 Mini van in heartbeat for years .

Are you actually suggesting that 1966/1980's Minis did not have Yokohama A032R tyres back in 1970/71 when the mini scene was meant to be dated from

Shouldnt knock it , the car is great , and the story is ok . What more would you expect from a American director who was on a tv show based in fifties America who had a friend called Fonzy .

Actually , cannot say too much as I have a mate called Raz and he is a dead ringer for our James Hunt actor
