Wiper Motor Installation

Hi, has anyone got any tips on how to install the 3 rubber bungs that hold that are used to mount the wiper motor on a Mk 1? They almost seem to large.

Anything that lubricates them should do it - a drop of washing-up liquid perhaps or waxoyl should do it. I think that's what I used I re-used original ones but I expect new/reproduction items use a harder material.

I gave up in the end they just would not go through, so I cut them and positioned half each side of the hole, seem alright but then I won't be going out in rain

A combination of lubrication as suggested and a flat screwdriver should be enough to stuff it through a bit at a time.

I had trouble with mine, the new ones do seem to be thicker. I cut one side across one radius which helped.

In the past I have had to chop them in half & superglue them onto the bulkhead, but on other occasions they have gone in without too much bother.

I sprayed mine with some silicone, and carefully had them in with a small screwdriver. Had no problems with mine...

Funny I just fitted a set to a 59 and the buggers would not go in! lubed, warmed up, nothing worked .............so I cut 'em and glued 'em, works every time!
Is it just me or does all the new remade rubber items suck big time? not just mini stuff but everything, I restore old British cars for a living and the reproduction parts A) Never fit B) fall apart in very quick time! I have MG's I've restored needing new suspension bushes within TWO years because they perish and Ooze out, maybe its the California sunshine that does it? but up here in the North we get quite enough liquid sunshine..............

And talk about tight the windscreen was right bugger too!!

I also had issues with the motor rubbers.. I persivered and worked eventually. Diddly and frustrating

Also had issues with windscreen rubber.. Plenty we-40 also used a cable running lubricant to assist.. Slippery but does the job..
