During a rally yesterday when doing a test on an airlfield with lots of slalom and handbrake turns high rpm 7k noticed the oil pressure light flickering on and off at the end of the test ..... have a high pressure switch fitted , the gauge showed 50 psi .... normally runs at 78 to 80 psi . Metro Turbo oil pump .
Anything to be concerned about ..... oil cavitation ? Starvation ? surge ..... central pick up fitted and oil level on max.
Engine ran fine for remainder of the day and pressure stabilised back at 75 shortly after test.

Re: Oil Pressure / Surge
It sounds like you did manage to suck a little air during the violent manoeuvres immediately before you noticed the oil light flickering. If your sump is topped up to the correct limit & you have a central oil pipe fitted there is not a lot more you can do. It is unlikely that serious damage will be done due to momentary loss of oil pressure as you describe, although this type of starvation will inevitably increase wear in the longer run. A windage tray or sump baffle may help.

Re: Oil Pressure / Surge
I guess if I didnt have a high pressure switch I would be none the wiser as all you see on the gauge is a drop from 75 to 50 psi
