Arrrggg how annoying!
I've been with Peter James for the last few years and been happy with their service - http://www.peterjamesinsurance.co.uk/.
I pay about £100 for my '64 SDL with 998cc Cooper Engine, S Discs, RC40 etc. You can do you own valuation as well with photos etc rather than need to get one done independantly.
Cheers,
Chris

RH Classic in Brentwood Essex brilliant to date. Mark F and Rich H recommended a few years ago. My car has loads of engine mods and a leather interior and no issue there. Cheers. Mark

I insure my '850' Mk1 but to full 1275S spec with Autoline Insurance in Northern Ireland and have done so since putting it on the road 6 years ago.
They treat it as a standard S and I think the premium is around £80 per year.
