ign light probs

the ign light on the 850 will not go out, dynamo ok, field coils etc etc, polarity changed, wiring sound,5 seperate regulator box"s tried, the light will dim, a bit, but not go out.................. any ideas please :twisted:

Did you see the regulator points moving and producing a spark without the cover?

Dicky ignition switch / connection. Weak spring/s holding the brush/es down. :?:

Is it a new loom? The bulb holders fitted on the new looms are far from brilliant. Check that the bulb holder is not grounding on the speedo housing, this will keep the light on.

will look at ign switch, the loom is original and all is good, the coil in the regulator wil lnot pull the points in

Maybe the regulator is stuck. With a screwdriver, force it (gently) to operate to see if the points start moving. It was happening with mine, even after cleaning the points.

field coil prob in the end, got the dynamo and regulator on a test rig at a blokes w/shop up the road, all set up spot on, happy now :)

Good that you got it fixed, but there is one more thing
to consider that no-one mentioned.

Not sure about this, but I think that the wattage of the bulb
may affect things here...

Some of the MES bulbs are 2.2W, some are 3W and some
may be "neither of the above".

If the bulb is the wrong wattage and therefore resistance,
this can bugger up the electrical balance of how this is supposed
to work.

Seem to remember this being a problem on one of mine
many years ago...
