thats a bit pre emptive isnt it??

As i understand it the circuits getting in trouble for running more days than their 1985 agreement which is getting the backs up of some locals, possibly 'recently retired'
Locals and council want to keep the circuit open but the circuit management isnt doing itself any favours.
Talk of selling the circuit for housing is a pressuring tactic to sway the council towards letting them have more days than are in the agreement (that they're breaking) and apparently need to make money.

Bad situation all round :(

I think that in the Mallory park situation, its not the nimbys who have caused the problem, rather it was the management team riding roughshod over the noise agreements / amount of trackdays etc that had been in place since 1985

I got the impression that the final straw was the late night 'awesome fest' that featured drift cars, off road motorbikes and a huge pissed up music concert that went right on into the night..........

I think that sort of going on would have got the back up of anyone living that close to a circuit!!!

I see your point Rich , but if it was up to a few neighbours (who choose to live near a circuit, can be very well versed, well funded and determined to get their own way) most race circuits would be closed I reckon. That would probably go for most music festivals, even airports, you name it....

As Rich has already said, it looks like 6 of one & half a dozen of the other to me. Mallory Park have been trying to force the councils hand & the Nimbys have been taking every opportunity they can get to cause trouble.

The drift fest earlier this year could very easily be seen as a last straw.

I reckon, having read round the issue a bit that a phoenix company will arise to take on Mallory on a more sensible basis.

All tracks near to houses have to watch their step, there are a lot of anti car people in councils & community groups nowadays & simply provoking them like Mallory appear to have done is remarkably stupid to say the lest.

The Track was there before the houses though, you don't buy a house near a racetrack if you want to live in a quiet area. There should be a special capital gains tax, brought in for such cases.

You are of course right Smiffy, but the root of the problem is that ALL race tracks have certain restrictions placed on them with regards to number of days racing, noise levels etc. And Mallory have been totally ignoring them for years. They have been lucky to have "£got away with it" for as long as they have & it's their cavalier attitude to these planning restrictions that have come & bitten them in the arse.

PRESS RELEASE

4 December 2013

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEW OPERATORS FOR

MALLORY PARK

Mallory Park, the popular Leicestershire motor racing circuit, has new operators.

Stuart Hicken and Eddie Roberts, both well known in the motorcycle racing world, have formed a jointly-owned company - Real Motorsport Limited - to run the circuit on a day-to-day basis.

They commented: "This is a great day for us both. We have grown up with Mallory Park, firstly as spectators, then as competitors and now running businesses associated with the sport".

Eddie owns Complog, a leading worldwide retailer of motorcycle tyres which also supplies the British Superbike Series. He enjoyed a 20-year racing career, which saw him compete in many events, including Grands Prix and the Isle of Man TT.

Stuart is owner of the Buildbase BMW Motorrad UK British Superbike Team. He started racing in the late 1960s, then managed successful racing teams for others, before setting up his own Hawk Racing squad. Stuart's career also included several years at Mallory Park.

The previous operating company went into administration, after a series of problems associated with the contravening of agreed noise regulations.

Both men commented: "We realise that there is a lot of bridge building to be done with the local community, but Mallory Park has been here for a long time and we are hopeful that - with understanding all round - it will have a long and successful future. We would like to thank circuit owner Chris Meek for giving us the opportunity of re-establishing Mallory Park and also Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council for advice regarding noise issues and the community".

The pair will now start a programme of works to get the circuit into shape for the forthcoming season and plan to stage their first race meeting in the spring, together with a programme of practice and track hire days.

Excellent news!

It was always the most likely outcome, I am glad that common sense prevailed.

I spoke to Stuart today. He has 140 operational days and 40 'Noisy' to work with. MSA 105 dBa normal limits count as a Noisy day. He says they are undertaking various noise limiting works and that as he has lived in the village for many years knows all the locals. Sounds encouraging. They wouldn't have taken it on if they didn't think it work.
