DOWNTON HEAD

Post by BRI MK1 »

pulled this head out today I think it is a downton head has numbers just above heater vale 1013 then 0 . 70 then 16.5 the inlet valves are 35m the exhaust valves are 31m the head looks very nice and does not look as if it has been used much as I cleaned it today and it almost looks new it is a 12g940,s head.i know there are a few downton experts on here just wondering if they could tell me if it is dowton and when it was built cheers Brian.

That's what I thought David.

Am reserving judgement until I see some pics though.

I will take some pictures in the next couple of days, just one other thing about the head it has round exhaust ports rather than square.

I have three Longman heads, the numbers are 600ish, 700ish and 1100ish, in my case I know they are Longman as they are in Richards little black book, did Downton even number heads? I have a 12G940 that is very similar to the Longman heads but is not numbered, it has the cc and skim amount in the correct place and style, any
thoughts?

I've checked my Vortz head and that has round exhaust ports and a number in the 1000's, have you got any pictures of yours?

Judging by the stamps I would say not Downton or Longman, Vortz is a strong possibility.

Excellent porting though.
