Lucas 608 Mirror

Post by 111Robin »

I unearthed this while clearing out my dad's workshop. I'm aware a version of this was fitted to some works cars, but was it ever available as an aftermarket part for Minis in general ?. I have no idea what this was fitted to or if it can be adapted to fit my car. I've read the thread on creating a mount but the stem on mine appears to be a lot shorter. Is it worth modifying it, or just try to punt it on Ebay ?

Hi Robin,

This 608 mirror is the later type with rubber "frame" and the later Black type flick switch.

I have never seen these fitted to a works or Coachbuild Mini.

Asume its a late 70ies model.

The type BMC works, and W&P fitted (untill they started with the electric ones)
were the all alloy type, with the White round nylon knob.

Hopes this helps.

Thanks Jens,
On talking with my dad it appears it was from a series 1 XJ6 circa 71/72

I agree with JCT One, would still look good on a Mini, but probably worth more on ebay.

Tend to agree, I don't really want to fit it to my MkII so best to move it on.
