Re: Goodwood Revival - Who's Going?
What a weekend!
Both Minis made the 1500km trip without too many dramas. Blew a nice hole in my manifold on the way home though...must have overheated and cracked.
First St Mary's race was a real thriller and by far the best race of the weekend. Second race wasn't quite as exciting, but watching the Minis (Swifty's in particular) coming through Madgwick from the exit of the corner was spectacular!
Already planning next years return and have added a set of CR65s to the shopping list

Re: Goodwood Revival - Who's Going?
I've been keeping an eye on the activities of the Revival online (and checking out your FB page for your trip). Looked like another typically excellent Goodwood.
I'm in the process of thinking about my trip back next year (I go every other year) and this time I'm definately driving over with mate of mine hopefully co-driving for me. If you're driving over again next year Neil, perhaps we could meet up at the docks and head over in convoy. Hoping to take the Traveller and break out the tent instead of flying and hotelling!

Not too keen on the back-to-front-to-back views, etc. Shame it was not a little wetter. How do Oliver's knees not hit the steering column (6'2")??Red Mist wrote:Think I'll drive over in the my Legacy GTB Wagon next year Ian...glad I drove in the Mini this year but wouldn't be rushing to do it again!

That video shows one thing I dislike about Goodwood...the fact it favours pure power...that red Galaxie wasn't being driven that well but it's power just let it sail away....must be a bit frustrating as a driver but I suppose you're only going against you're class to some degree...

Re: Goodwood Revival - Who's Going?
It was just the same in period Bryn, a Galaxie or a Mustang (absent at this year's Revival for some reason) would disappear into the distance on a dry quick track like Goodwood in the mid 60's. Ironically Swifty's Mini punches way above the weight of a period Gp2 car (maybe because it is in effect a works car compared to some), 1275 Minis beating Lotus Cortinas at Goodwood was pretty rare in period, but yes you're right the class win was the thing in those days which lead to so many class victories and some outright championship trophies.
We have to take on board also that Revival races like the St Mary's are put together to create theatre, nostalgic entertainment and the grids are actually not particularly representative of any pre '66 grid you'll ever find, especially down the lower order, and I would imagine it also depends who's putting in all the money in any particular year (like the Audi built DKWs etc). I remember one year they had Fitzy racing a New York taxi , very quick but pretty ridiculous !

Very true....I remember dad telling me much the same at a Gold Cup once, ''what people forget son is the Mini's won championships by winning their class, the Cortina's and Galaxies won the races''....still for me i'd find it frustrating but perhaps i'm overtly enthusiastic for the overall position

Re: Goodwood Revival - Who's Going?
Had a great day at goodwood as usual, the drive though the sussex countryside on the Sunday morning was fantastic, the drive home somewhat wetter. I think Swifty,s rain dance prior to the St Mary race had a delayed reaction. Although it was nice to have a dry day there, bit of drizzle about 1oclock would have made things a bit lively.
I think I spotted 6 EMO parked up inside, but had no time look, so much to see and do in 1 day. Chatted with some fine Gents from North of the border, including Kevin who,d driven his 1070 down for the weekend. I think it's the same car spotted on this forum, resting up in Brampton after Croft. That's one Cooper getting some miles.
Heads up For highlights ITV 4 @ 9 pm Thursday and 11.35 on ITV
Cheers Tim

Re: Goodwood Revival - Who's Going?
As usual Goodwood was great although getting in and out seemed to take much longer this year. Maybe just bad timing on my part. Good to meet up with you Tim and also a few other like minded enthusiasts from all over the globe. The 1071 ran great all the way down and home including a few days in the Lake District, just over 1400 miles. The only problem being a loose bulb in a front indicator, it rattled loose attacking the Hardknott pass.
