A few of Barry Hawkins Pictures

Post by mk1 »

Here are a few of the hundreds of images I have from ex Downton general manager & all round good egg Barry Hawkins. Barry & I organised the first (and best) Downton reunion back in 2006.

If the Alfa's just punted the Mini off I guess the Mini driver might have have filled in the first 3 letters on the top left sign with something begining with W if he had a copy of the picture

That's the first time I've seen the Howley Racing transporter. Who's the driver?

Great pictures Mark. I like this one - understeer, oversteer and neutral balance all in one corner!

Any ideas on the driver, don't think it's a young Phil Hepworth.

Thanks, John Chappell being a partner/owner of Howley Racing presumably?

Yes Dave he was, I didn't recognise the photo as there's so few images of him. I've photos of his 970 racer in the 60's somewhere, it was dark blue / white I seem to recall. Did so much really, rallied a '65 'S' early on (which is still around) , built all sorts, 6R4's, OHCs, all the usual tuning bits, cars for Datapost etc etc, wasn't he a main distributor for K&N early on aswell ? Bit of a mystery Howley to many aren't they, I've asked Phil for an interview but he doesn't do 'em, period ! They evolved into Racespec, did lots of formula car engines and then got bought out by the 1275GT Centre (Stockport) where I used to work as a lad.
