B-series rocker posts

Post by Vegard »

I've sold a B-series head to a B-series guy. Now he tells me that the rocker oil channel is in a different place in the one I sold him and that the feed hole is outside the post itself. Were B-series engines delivered with other variations of rocker posts?

Anyone??

I think there are two types of heads and they have different rocker post oil feed drillings :o

Its BMC they always change things

The heads changed in 1974, I think they also reduced the inlet valve diameter as well as moving the oilway

Ok, this is the best I can do, 1800 B-series heads 1963 - 1972 had the oil hole directly between the head stud & rocker stud at the position of the rear pedestal & had 39.6mm inlet valves. 1972 - 1974 as above with the oil hole, but with 41.275mm inlet valves. This head will also have the letter 'A' embossed on the head near the rear stud, on the manifold side. (If it's a 'Q' it's essentially the same head destined for a Mk2 Austin / Morris 1800). From 1974 the inlet valves reverted to 39.6mm & on most the oil hole was offset about 12mm forward of it's original position & this head should be marked with E, G, N or X, there may be other letters, but that's as far as my knowledge goes.
Sorry this is a bit sketchy, but I hope it's enough for you to identify your head.
