The Mini 'Scene' is actually quite small..
6 degrees of separation and all that
I was just thinking this while typing out my blurb for the 'who you are' thread and reading what others have put.
I wonder how many of us know the same people??
This could go on a bit...
Dai knows Endaf and helped with the AppK build, I'm facebook friends (Christ that sounds bad!) with Endaf, I put him onto a BDA on Pistonheads which I think he bought. We're both on the spaceframe minis page as obviously he builds them and I had loads of pics off the net which I posted over there, sourced from when I was looking for one and ended up buying a miglia type thing from Rightline Motorsport. I also know Jim that does the wiring and techy stuff with endaf, through Dave Coxon firstly, who helped Jimsters turbo twin cam build, and Jimsters involvement with the turbominis forum. Several of the members from there are on here as well, some I've met in passing at avon or mitp through my friendship with Turbo Phil (as he's known)
Everybody knows or knows of Vegard , who bought Bodge It Racing 1 from Mark Haswell who I first met donkeys years ago when the same car was a different reg I sold Neil, marks mate, who might? still have BIR 2 my old road Vauxhall-mini frame. Some of the NE guys must know Neil? whats become of the mini?
On track days with Mark H I met Jon Flanagan, one of vegards mates? bought Jons famous yellow mini. I know for a fact that Rich at minispares knows a lot of these people, and reckon Mark F might as well.
Others off this forum - Stuart - SurfBlue, often bump into each other at shows but can't recall where we first met?
GraemeC - emails about something or other and I've seen his lovely cars on display at Heaves Hall a few times.
So mostly people in the realms of 'making minis go quicker' when I read back through it..

You are right, the mini scene is very small indeed! When you have mates like Pete F, Rich (guru) & Will (twin Turbo) Kerr, I know there is only 1 degree of separation between myself & about 99% of all mini owners in the world

Rich, I notice that so far four Cumbrians have responded to Mark's 'who are you' thread.Richspec wrote:6 degrees of separation and all that

Either the far North West Mini scene is bigger than I realised or we just like talking about ourselves (not much else to do up here)

We first met at the Holker Show in 2009. I think you spotted my car on the Cumbria Mini Cruisers forum and invited me over to be part of your 50 Years of Mini display.Richspec wrote:Others off this forum - Stuart - SurfBlue, often bump into each other at shows but can't recall where we first met?
I've not been over to a Cumbrian show for a few years, I must pencil a couple in for next year.

i once sold a mini to a certain richard that was slightly flood damaged. later found out it had previously been damaged and badly repaired. always felt guilty about that and wondered if it ever affected my ability for discount!!
too small a community, but one where the nice people in it are willing to help whenever they can.

I remember that, I crashed my saxo on the same day you delivered it, so technically it was the distress of buying that mini that made me crash
you owe me one phase one black citroen saxo vts

rubbish
it was bog standard
it was a understated flying machine,
don't confuse the vts with the boy racer vtr!
the insurance on the vts was so high that boy racers couldn't afford to run them
in another 15-20 years vts's are going to be a very rare car, its so rare that they are even seen on the road now, I haven't seen a phase one for ages round here.

Sorry Rich been camping in Devon last week so didn't see your post.Richspec wrote:Aye, we're not backward at coming forward!

The answer is therefore no we were not taking part and now, with hindsight, I'm glad too as I hear the weather was very... Cumbrian.
We're in the middle of a big showroom renovation at work so keeping our heads down and trying to deliver a decent service in the middle of a building site.
