Gauges for repair?

Post by atlanticdave »

I have a smiths type capillary water temp gauge in my mk1, however the other day I noticed its stopped working, just wondering if anyone can fix these? and if anyone would have any recommendations of who? I just wondered if it could be repaired opposed to forking out loads on a new replacement type one.

Speedy cables will repair it for you, http://www.speedycables.com
Might be a bit of a wait though they seem to be very busy, they're doing a rev counter for me but it's been quite a few weeks....

You could consider repairing it yourself. There are a couple of how-tos floating around the internet. I haven't tried it but it can be done. Just don't try to re-connect a broken capilliary tube with a piece of solid copper wire like the previous owner of one of my cars.
