I assume the reason that all the pics of Jeff's Vitamin are a bit blurred where as all the other pics are perfect is either due to the fact that it was too quick to photograph or it was due to the vibration of the exhausts :-)

Back on English soil for the first time...a first tantalising view....

More later folks, and yes Dave the last runs were slower due to a previous downpour leaving the track a little greasy under the trees. Whizz nearly chucked it into the bank on the last run. The last run was my only decent one !

Jean has a very special relationship with that car, he's a great engineer, we got to find out quite abit about him and his good pal Errol over a few beers which always helps.

I can only echo what the others have said so far - it was a great event (as always) made even better by having so many special early Minis in attendance - well done Pete et al. I didn't get to see you Pete unfortunately near your Hornet - or at least if I did I didn't know what you looked like - or anyone else from the forum - perhaps we should wear Mk1 Performance Conversions sandwich boards :?:  Had a good chat with a few Mini owners in the paddock and up the hill though.

Here are my photos:

Some nice Minis in the car park

On the way out this one gave it the beans onto the lane (sounded lovely) but nearly understeered into the hedge on the muddy tarmac :? :D

The Beast - missed it going up the hill though :(

And the lovely BVRT racer:

Sir Stirling gave an interesting and amusing interview:

Some Big Bummed Mini ;)

Lovely South African car:

Some nice Cooper 500s:

Some lovely cars in the MCR display:

I think this could be one of my favourite Minis - I've seen it around quite a bit at various shows over the years (Race Retro etc) but don't know anything about it - anyone know it?

Also very pleased to get Whizzo's signature to add to the collection in my Works Mini book:

And finally, I can't think of many better places to sit and while away an afternoon:

Cheers,

Chris

I remember that weekend well! It was my first year hillclimbing & seeing that car was what got me interested in Downton.

The "S" was Nicky Porters 21st birthday present from his parents. It was a 1071 that was bought direct then sent straight down to Downton for a 1275 fitting.

A beautiful car, and in it's day very quick!

Some lovely snaps there Stu, well done ! By the way can anyone else see the remnants of BARRIE WILLIAMS name still visible on the Island Blue door paint of KDK 320F (from when he ran it in 1969) ? Amazingly original that shell ! If you've got anything like normal eyesight (unlike me) you can even see John Handley's aswell.

KDK is fantastic...! The only of the three who survive?
Seems to be Island Blue from new? We know that HDK 443 E was almond Green. And 319F? Someone knows? And where is 319?

Well spotted Graham, Jean is old school and used to the car's foibles after all these years, despite the car seldom having run in the last 20 years. I wonder what it revs to, sounds like five figures !
