Re: My Mk3 S rolls again :-)
Looking good from a fellow mk3 owner.
I will nit pick two things though. Two things that would bug me, if you dont mind, one is the front window chrome insert the join should be at the top. You can get a chrome cover to bridge the gap.
Second is the A panel badge is too low, it should be about 2 in higher up. Ill get my coat.

Joiners are an 80s thing and yes the join should be at the top as early rubbers joined at the bottom

Re: My Mk3 S rolls again :-)
Ive got a nos set of badges ready to go on as its masquerading as an 850 for now and ive just gotten me 2 x nos
wait for it

TRIPLEX heated front screens - Monte type - Still wrapped in orig packing
Now about the joint - wont be there when the new screen goes in BUT having been in the
Car windscreen industry for a good number of years , i dont put joints at the top of anything , joints let water in, water flows down hill - thats my theory anyway.
theres a few things to do yet , VORTZ airbox to fit, Ive CNC machined out a VORTZ steering wheel but i need it covering now, ive modified another Mk2 Grill with the little cut out ala VORTZ , just needs a set of rose petals to finish
Winter will see the roof painted black and the door frame chrome removed (possibly)
but for now rolling road is the next stop as its running like a bag o spanners in a washing machine

Re join.... I know you are in to windows
All I was pointing out was that when new, the join in the rubber seal would be at the bottom and the join in the chrome locking strip would be at the top with no gap. I only mentioned the trim because the locking strip was short.

Re: My Mk3 S rolls again :-)
hey Foxy
its a MK3 S through and through , the door chromes are the minispares ones and the 850 badge is just stuck on it for a bit of fun
its an early june 1970 built example.
plenty of pat n tina still left on it.
Unfortunatly im gonna have to drive it for 18 miles a day over country roads to get to work and back
looks like the audi is getting abandoned

....Nice one Pad.. good on ya,,use it to travel to work over country roads.. get max fun out of it I say !!!..apart from the depths of winter ice and snow etc..I poodle or put pedal to the metal going backwards and forwards from Holt to Overstrand and its a delight to drive an old classic all the time.. we have many here locally MGB,s.Moggies,TR,s,Jags,Volvos, etc etc.. lots of classic car users in a relatively safe part of the UK....3 in my Close now !!!... no point having an ol giffa unless u use it.. rgds foxy52pad4 wrote:hey Foxy

The S looks really good in black, and your logic with the window join at the bottom makes more sense, they should have done it on the production line.

Well its been on the rollers for a set up, gave a respectable 63bhp at wheels without doing anything like full power runs so i cant wait to see what we get when he does a proper RR session

Thanks for sorting my polycarb out yesterday Paul, much appreciated. No biccys with the brew though, a big no no.
Just finishing it off now then sorting my wonky suspension , wish I had that nice flat polished floor of yours to do it on !

Re: My Mk3 S rolls again :-)
Very nice Mk3 S! Especially love the idea of fitting the Mini 850 badges to it. Now it´s a wolf in sheep’s clothing...
Greetings, Mike
Very interesting! Do you have further details on this?pad4 wrote:Ive CNC machined out a VORTZ steering wheel but i need it covering now
I´ve seen on some other pictures here in the forum that it has the solid rear bulkhead. Is this factory-spec or did you change the rear bulkhead? Always thought B20D´s had the roto-dip hole in the rear bulkhead!?pad4 wrote:its an early june 1970 built example

Re: My Mk3 S rolls again :-)
Mike - i think youve seen pics of my other car with the solid bulkhead (and no magic wand cover plate in the floor) - the white one , thats the strange B20D body - there are also some strange plates sandwiched between the parcel shelf and the body to completely seal off the boot area and the place where the throttle pedal mounts has huge captive nuts and bolts.
The Black one is an early S , my daily driver hopefully
re the vortz wheel - ive just drawn one up and machined it on our cnc machine to as near as i can get it , just need it covering now

Re: My Mk3 S rolls again :-)
It depends when the shell was built, I've seen plenty of B20D shells without the hole and even a couple with rod change front tunnels.Always thought B20D´s had the roto-dip hole in the rear bulkhead!?
The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who do not possess it.
Re: My Mk3 S rolls again :-)
Oh.... Yes i mixed up those two minis....
Did you use a spoke design like on the earlier Vortz Sebring wheel or like the later "Type R" wheel?
Mike
Any chance to see some pictores of this?pad4 wrote:re the vortz wheel - ive just drawn one up and machined it on our cnc machine to as near as i can get it , just need it covering now

Re: My Mk3 S rolls again :-)
I wasnt overly keen on the silver roof but it kind of ties in the silver wheels and my vortz airbox
im going to put clear front indicator lenses on it, the orange ones just dont sit right for me
And then i need to find a new carpet set in blue
