Heater brackets - an easy one for you....

Hi All. I have finally rebuilt my heater (1966 car) and I am puzzled as to why the gap between the rear mounting brackets on the bulkhead have got wider?? I realise that they haven't and I am sure that there is a really simple explanation but it has been a long time since I took the thing out (10-15 years) and I need help. Thanks in advance. Mark

Hi Mark,
My car looks like it has only ever had the left bolt installed but I have seen some with a right bolt and spacer fitted. The simple answer to the situation in the heater is narrower than the lugs.

Onb a lot of heaters I have seen the brackets on the front bulkhead are spaced wider than the heater body. you should be able to use a nut & lock nut arrangement or spacer to fill the gap.

I thought I was the one who was going to the bottom of the class with that question. Nearly didn't ask...
Talking to a couple of mates (I just bend em in, I only hang it on one bracket etc) and the responses on the forum it seems that we need a solution. I am thinking a barrel nut say 2-3cm long allowing the threaded bar from the heater to be attached, with a threaded bar at the other end allowing it to hang on the bulkhead bracket. Question is where do we find such a thing and what would the thread size be? Cheers. Mark

Well, as I said further up, my heater hangs on the left bolt only and feels as solid as a rock. There's no need to do anything else. The paint on the roght lugs suggests it has never had a bolt fitted on the right side, wrong as it may seem.

Or you could drink it.

That way you wouldn't notice the steamed up window or the cold on your legs.
