The first factory fitted rh tank was Aug59! S rh tankswere properly stamped out and thus BMC tanks. They were not fabricated as per Serck.Pete wrote:I remember having a '64 1071 with a 3.7 final drive, laminated screen, right hand tank and 4 1/2 rims spec'd on the Heritage trace. All the others I've had have all been bog std with no options taken. Was the optional right hand tank (even for earlier cars) always the factory production item ? And when was the first factory right hand tank available ?
most things on a 1071 were options. The twin tanks, supplied with no vent in the rh cap. The early oil cooler (engine mounted) was bought from an accessory firm which sold them as an after market accesory. I shall have to dig out who they were. There was a close ratio helical cut box. The sump guard protected the front of the sump. not the underneath. I was told that 4 1/2" wheels were initially only supplied with R6 racing tyres. Not all Ss had laminated screens, but they did come with the buzzing gear lever.
