ZDDP revisited

Post by dutchacme »

Do members have experience, knowledge or an opinion in supplementing their mini engine oil with a ZDDP additive ?

The story goes that in the mid nineties the zinc content in oils was drastically reduced because it smudged up catalytic converters, from a typical 1500 – 1800 ppm down to 600 ppm for the current “regular” oils. That is non-racing oils or running-in oils.

ZDDP apparently prevents premature wear during running –in and subsequent normal usage of highly loaded surfaces, like tappets.

Vegard,

is this your local Statoil 20-50 or are these special racing or running-in oils ?
