Re: Beaulieu 2013
I would like to add my bit.
I very rarely go to these type of events but dicided to go this year for a few reasons.
1 my car does not get out enough
2 lots of famous cars to be seen including james martins
3 it gladly recievs both types of mini.(infact my wifes convertable was the one mentioned and i was very glad she was asked to relocate as it did ruin the planned layout.)
4 there is plenty of things to do at this venue and indeed took a family of friends inc their 7 year old daughter, who had a great time and i can promise you she is very hard to please.
I applaud all the work and stress by all the organisers you are a credit to the club of which i am shamefully not a member.try not to be dispondant your efforts are very much appreciated.thank you.

Re: Beaulieu 2013
How many 1071's made it? Sounds like 17 in the display and possibly a few more in the general car park? Anyone know how many 1071's are there on the MCR register?
I know of 7 in SA, probably more than that around here still. I have very fond memories of Beaulieu 2012, fortunately not nearly as much bickering that I recall post the event...

Re: Beaulieu 2013
As many of you would know, I am a collector of Mini Cooper's and early Mini's in general. I've been in the Cooper Register for a very long time, I was asked to bring a 1071 Cooper S up, which I did. I travelled over 240 miles and had to buy my own ticket. I was disgusted on the Sunday to see a Ferrari in the ring with some idiot revving it all the time. The commentator on the mic was patronising James Martin, me and many others who brought 1071's to the show, should have been in the ring. Remember, it was 50 years of the 1071 and not 50 years of the Ferrari! I think that the organisers do a fantastic job with Beaulieu and also Tony Salter, Robert Young, Leslie Young and Sally Salter.
I only just paid my membership 3 days before leaving to go to Beaulieu. I don't think it was as well attended as they make it out to be. When I left the show, me and many more 1071 owners jumped into their Mini Cooper S 1071 1963's and, unlike James Martin, didn't have to push it to start it!
Many Thanks

PS: If I want to learn how to boil an egg, I'll go to a cookery show!

Re: Beaulieu 2013
Mk1 coopers
No my wife was fine, she understood that her modern car looked out of place and when she found the home for hers she was happy.
She had a great day and new or old or even ferrari all the cars had their own versions of beauty and i am convinced that if her GTT tuned coopers was to be around in 50 years then it would be as highly regarded as all the mk1,s rightfully are.
When family and friends get a chance in our busy lives to spend a day together then great.if you can then add the smiles driving our cars then it turns to near perfection ( except when a 1965 peroid tuned 89bhp coopers only just loses out to a 2007 modern tuned 225bhp cooper s in a mild race home) but it was very close and we were all sporting stupid grins when the kettle went on.

Re: Beaulieu 2013
I am a long time lapsed member of the MCR, and have never attended the show as it's so far away, so this post is purely to ask a question.
If James Martin owns 2 works minis, why did he arrive in a Ferrari? would he go to a Ferrari Owners club event in one of the minis?
Seems odd?
Still, I once sold an ex works car to the owner of a 250 GTO, so I look forward to seeing the reports of him participating in the next GTO tour in the mini.

Didnt bunty richmond have a ferrari 250gto.
Now theres a link.
If paddy could have driven that while making a handbrake ommelette then we are nearly there.
Personally i like all cars and am glad that james was there with his mini,s .
If i ever get rich and famous dont dislike me for owning old cars whatever the make

Re: Beaulieu 2013
Mk1Coopers I must apologise for my absence from the 1071 line up with AKY. I just could not get away on sat as I had to work! . From reports I've heard from a few friends that attended said the show was top notch.
I have to say though that this sort of tread is only going to divide and pull the club apart. We as members need to work together to keep what we have which is one of the best clubs world wide! From what I can see from the outside is a them V's us type of attitude, which I think is the core problem and is the elephant in the room!
So how do we help to fix this?
I think if we had a get together/barbeque on the sat with name tags with real names and forum names to try and form a united/family atmosphere it might be the way forward. The thing here is we all have the same interests MINI's. So lets enjoy that we have, there's enough of crap to deal with in the real world!
Cheers

Re: Beaulieu 2013
Nevsmini, not a problem we all have other commitments that take us away from Minis, Pandora, I should imagine that James Martin arrived in a Ferrari because he had arranged for the 2 works cars to be driven to the event (one by a MK1 forum member) early in the day so that they were part of the ex works display for as long as possible , if I had a car like that and the weather was good I'd want to give it a run out too, at least it was a classic Ferrari
Just for the record although I've been at shows ect where James Martin has also attended I've never spoken to him or arranged for his cars to be there

ah, that makes a bit more sense - I hadn't picked up from previous posts that he had the minis there as well, hence my question.

Re: Beaulieu 2013
Well, being general Mini-fans (not specifically mk.1's or Coopers) we came over from Holland in our '95 Cooper for the weekend and we had a great day, with lovely weather as an added bonus.
This was our first Cooper Day in Beaulieu and we've never seen such a large number of nice and special Mini's together, such as the Radfords or indeed the assembled Works cars. We met mr Boswell (and his 1071 S) on the campsite on Saturday which was a nice preview.
On the show, we weren't bothered by the Bini's as some people were: these were easy to walk past. Things (or people) can be ignored if desired
We had a nice chat with the gentleman who brought the 9X prototype to the show. We were invited to sit in the drivers seat. Here you can see me inspecting this piece of history
Definately going again in the future. Our thanks to the organisers for a great show.
