Ive nothing against james martin ,but if i had pulled up in that ferrari i would have been directed to the car park . Im a mcr member , i took the time to attend , i entered a car in the show . No one thanked me . Its fame and privalage . I did over hear someone asking whats original on 8 emo , and commenting that it should be on a Q plate . That said hes thrown a lot of money into minis and that can only be a good thing .

He was, quite correctly, issued with a VIP car park pass, that's why he was diected to park where he did. The VIP car park is for Honhorary members and invited guests - he fell into the latter. He too is a member of the MCR and also brought along his two Ex-Works cars to Beaulieu. But thanks for bringing your car all the same, I hope you enjoyed the day as much as many others seemed to.

Which was yours? I took pics of most of the 1071s.

Might need to lean on you a bit for the odd pointer when I get cracking building it up, if that's ok?

Yes robert i did enjoy the show , very well run , helpful staff , clean toilets. Look forward to it every year and will continue to participate . Im just pointing out that he was allowed to drive the ferrari onto the grounds etc because of his fame and privalage that it brings . Thats why hes a honhory member and invited guest . It the way of the world . Without saying who my brother is , who is on national tv every day i know from personal experiance the doors it can open . As i have said i have nothing against mr martin and have spoken to him a few times , we even spoke about my brother appearing on his programe . Mr martin is very approachable and his love of minis and the awareness it brings is adding to the popularity to our loved little cars , possibly helping our cars go up in value in some way . But on the other hand you can see why mark foster and a few other forum members are getting dissalutioned with the whole thing . Its like our hobby is getting to buisiness like nowadays and treating mr martin different to every one else, is in my opinion not helping . Please excuse any spelling mistakes.

No problem Jens, Steve it was the sole red one closest to the information caravan, and if you need help just let me know

Not to get too involved with the whole celeb thing, but if I had a Classic Ferrari like that I'd appreciate a decent car parking pass so I could keep it out of harms way, as with all these things having the right connections in life will always bring privileges for the few.

I was lucky enough to get a pass too, I'm no VIP but it helped out my other half as the car was much closer with all the stuff for our young Son, we both worked at the event and I got two display cars there as well as did others.

I've also been lucky enough to have cars at the big Goodwood events, as has Mark F and several other forum members, they really make you feel like a VIP at Goodwood when you supply a car, and I'm under no illusions that the opportunities we were given might be the only time it ever happens for us and that Mr Martin will be lucky enough to go most years to some great events and exercise his cars (Minis or others) without even having to pick up the phone to arrange it but that's life, it's not fair, and as I walk in to the Double Twelve drivers club at Brooklands this weekend I'll thank my lucky stars that the little box we all love has let me experience another great weekend with my family and friends that I may not have the opportunity to do again next year because I'm not a 'celeb' with a collection of cars, but I do feel that he (James) does have a genuine interest in cars, and that the rest of us would take the opportunities he gets if we were in the same position without hesitation :D

Glad to hear everyone had a great Beaulieu.

I myself would love to attend, but being in New Zealand makes it a challenge! Would be great to shake hands with some of the forum members that I feel like I already know (at a web-based level)

Please post up the pics, they are much appreciated

Envious of you who can just attend so easily!

Now that would make my 500 mile round trip in the day look easy.

Will get my pics up tonight.

Thanks mk1coopers, I've had the car in paint for a long time but work and family seem to take up all of my time. It will roll this year!

What I find wrong is Minisport charging between £5 -£15 for Paddy to autograph memorabilia.

Glad you enjoyed the day and appreciate all the hard work put into making Beaulieu what it is. Just one point however, James Martin is not an Honorary member, he is just a paid up member of the MCR, just like umpteen others - he was however for Beaulieu, an Invited Guest as we wished him to appear for the club and as such got a pass to park where he did - with his gorgeous Ferrari!

Sounds like another vintage Beaulieu!

Plenty of wonderful Mini's & a bit of controversy. What more could anyone ask :-)

For what it's worth my little moan some pages ago was not directed at any individual at all. It was merely a general personal observation that Mini's have gone from being cheap fun to being investments for many owners, and with the average price of an S approaching £20,000 & even that for a really nice MK1 not being too far off £8,000 or so it's very easy to understand why.

Pete said "you just have to develop a better radar" There is now't wrong with my "Radar" I know who to trust with my life & who to avoid like the plague, I have known this for years. Speaking for myself I just feel that for ME Mini's no longer give me the smiles per mile that I can get from other interests.

I am not "turning my back" on Mini's & all the friends I have made over the last 30 or so years, but can't see the point of pretending that I am enjoying something when I am not.

One day I am sure I will feel different & will finally get round to restoring LGW123 D my Speedwell demonstrator. When I do I will no doubt stick it into one of the Mags & hawk it round Beaulieu, then I'll be able to sell it for a not so small fortune

Until then, I hope that everyone continues to enjoy whatever they do, no one hobby is any better or interesting than another, lets all just remember that all we are doing is trying to have a bit of fun between work & sleep.

Enjoyed the weekend very much. Nice to chat with everybody again and seen some very nice cars! Not so much sales this time but the good weather made up for that, resulting in a burnt face...

I found it really strange that Paddy Hopkirk was on site tucked away in the mini sport tent but there was no reference to either him or EJB - the car and driver who really raised the profile of the 1071 in the early days. Shame really as it would have been nice to see him and his 'S' together in the arena.

We did look into getting 33 EJB down for the day, unfortunately it was beyond our budget as a club to do this.
