Hi All,

I hope that everyone going has an excellent time at Beaulieu, it looks like the weather will be kind to you this year.

As you have no doubt realised there will not be a MK1 stand again this year as my personal involvement in our favourite little car has been minimal for about 3 years now. I'm quite happy maintaining the site & forum but that's about it for me nowadays.

I still have my cars, but became a bit disillusioned with the show scene as people started to spend more time talking about prices than driving. That's not to say that come this time of year I don't wish I was going, particularly when the weather is as nice as it is.

I look forward to seeing some pics next week.

All the best,

Bravely or stupidly I'm letting the wife drive the MK3 S down :o  and I'm driving FN.

Ps never offer Mark (mk1coopers) any advice on how to put the 1071 display in order as he will put you down for helping him marshall the display - which happened to me :D note to self- keep gob shut next time. Seriously though I reckon it's going to be a cracking day.

Reminds me - must charge up the camera batteries... nearly forgot!

To my shame I've only been once before, hopefully I'll be making up for it this year though, buying up various bits for the resto.

I'm off, taking a pair of mk1 cooper seats, hopefully one each for Tim and Fraser.

It's a 500 mile round trip for me, should hopefully give me the inspiration to get on with my 1071.

I'm nearly ready! Camera battery charged, car loaded with tent etc, cash sorted! Looking forward to a couple in Brockenhurst tomorrow evening! Cant wait to see my old 'S' AKY finally finished and hoping to buy a seat from Steve and get a few more pieces of treasure for VFF!

All was well until i looked at the side of my modern Clubman and saw that some thieving git has nicked the side trim!

Still onwards and upwards!

See you all at the weekend

I understand as you mention a beautiful day and experience even if I'm many miles away. Currently I'm looking for the energy to complete my car as I like as I have most everything but lack motivation. Children seem to take a lot out of you and I only have one.
My son is 18 next month but I am sure his needs never end.

Take plenty of pictures of the 1071 line up everyone as it will be a special event that I would love to attend. ;)

Many many thanks to you Mark for all your work maintaining this valuable informative forum.

I know its really difficult Mark but it would be great to have you there amongst the minis in the sunshine....might be just what it takes to get your BMC juices flowing again!

P.S took a few pictures many years ago of TKU. Must dig them out and post them. Fantastic car.

all the best

Tim.

Unfortunatly I also share your veiws Mark, the whole mini scene for me has also taken a downward turn in the last few years mainly because of disingenuous people . :(

I must say thank you very much for keeping the Mk 1 going as it brings so much pleasure to so many and a great way to find out whats going on from so far away.

Have a great time at Bulee to all those going.

I am planning on going to the Gaydon show to see what its like, the main draw is that its not just minis. I haven't been to a show (down south) for years.

But you get that in any walk of life I would imagine. Yes there are some people in the 'Mini scene' (bit hard to decipher what that is) who are purely just out to make money full stop and if they p*ss everybody off in the process then tough sh*t. There's disingenuous people in many walks of life not just the 'Mini scene', you just have to develop a better radar Paul (and Mark !)

I wouldn't let a few bad apples ..(I'm sure there's a song about this...) I mean ..don't let the odd numpty ruin your interest ! I must admit I don't have any interest in Mini shows nowadays so only go to the odd one generally but they're not compulsory as neither is 'one-upmanship', just do your own thing.

Previous Mini shows at Gaydon have been a bit hit and miss, particular one year recently when they charged £14 per person which hacked off a lot of folk (my missus was livid!). Last year's show was good but there aren't as many trade stands there as there are at other shows - I usually go anyway though as it's fairly local to me, and the museum itself is a great distraction, even more so if they've had one of their regular shuffles round and changed the cars on display. As well as the three Monte winning cars there's a nice Mk3 Cooper S on display upstairs.

Was hoping my S would be ready in time for Gaydon but it looks like I'll be going in the P5B instead.

We are going to try to get out there, just need to sort the timings as it might not be until 9 or later as we have other plans, if not we will be out there tomorrow pointing the 1071's in the direction of the display (where the ex works cars used to park, next to the arena), the show field is looking good :D
