Mk3 Cooper S'

Post by tedmcedd »

I'm wanting to see some pics of, or know some specs of standard mk3 cooper S'

Were they available in any colour? or were the colours specific to the S? Interior colours too? were they any available? or all black?

I know they never had contrasting roofs...

Did they all come with over riders? And were the grills just the same as the standard 1000, the chrome thin slat?

Were they on hydro? or was that deleted by the mk3?

Thanks muchly!!

I stand to be corrected but I think all Mk3 S's were available in common Mk3 colours of the period, monotone, still all hydro, standard grille and over riders. Trim was the same as Mini 1000 in design (not 850) and colour depended on body colour and date of manufacture as Black trim was deleted in Feb '71 and replaced with Navy for Bronze and Glacier White cars for example. Quite a few combinations of body and trim colours were possible on Flame Red cars aswell due to similar changes in production. Recliners were offered as an option.

Great stuff thanks!

Flame red! I wasnt sure looking at some pictures if there was a 70's red colour, I couldnt tell if it was just blaze orange in a slightly different light!

The reason I ask, is I have just picked up a 1970 mini, and it has a lot of S parts on it, and I was going to do an S replica.

So any more info or some pics would be great! as you never know looking on google if they are standard cars or not!!

Here is my car. As you can see it just looks the same as a standard mk3 mini 1000 except for the small details.

Really lovely!

I'm tempted with just the standard wheel on mine too! Just looks so right!

Thank you for the pictures!

Now just to decide on colour and trim!

Limeflower with limeflower?? That would be my vote!!

If you want some limeflower trim, I have a set in 'ok' condition from a basic model.

A couple of the later Glacier White cars have Geranium (red) trim.

I know of a Teal Mk3 S with a Downton conversion that's been stuffed away for donkeys. It was, according to the owner, one of the last Mk3's ever sold and he had to go all the way to Downton just to get hold of it as there were non available anywhere else. Personally I'm liking Aqua on a Mk3. 8-)

Aqua is a great colour.... Would look good with the Navy...

Were the mk3 seats with the piping that went down the front of the seat base?

There was a red set sold on ebay recently, that would have looked great in a glacier white car, but no rear bench in the listing... Wasn't the Geranium trim in the Black Tulip cars too??

Have to agree on Aqua. Saw one at a show a few years back and it was stunning. Maybe there'll be one at Bulee this year?

I have a set of navy trim tucked away (low back recliners) for my mk3 S project. Drove all the way to Bath to buy them (along with a reasonably priced S engine).

Aqua is really tempting.....

Hmmm....

Although it is already red... so I wouldnt have to change the logbook if I went with flame red...
