In Porthleven in Cornwall, by the harbour there is a repair garage with a rather interesting a buggered V8 series 1 landrover. It has one of those wheels in very good condition. It's probably the sort of thing you could swap for a packet of baccy.

Sadly, when I'm down there, they are always closed.

The wheel used on EJB was a Springall not a LL.

The reason the boss & fixing is different on the ebay wheel is that its a different make & model of wheel.

Sorry, but I think EJB had a LL wheel in it.
Why do You think it was a Springalex?

Sorry, I meant to type Springall.

Will be back shortly with better pics.

M

PS. As usual, I may be wrong, but whether I am or not, the wheel in the ebay listing IS NOT the type in 33EJB.

As usual, I am 1/2 right & 1/2 wrong.

The original wheel that was fitted to 33EJB and which was reputedly stolen to order for a Mini based crook we have all heard of was a 6 hole boss flat Les Leston of this type;

It was not the small boss type that is currently for sale on ebay.

This one has 9 holes for a different boss entirely & takes a small horn push as was offered for use in Morris Minors & the 1100 & 1300 ranges.

If anyone can remind me which works car used a wheel like this I would be very grateful.

Thanks,

Mark

I've heard the story about the wheel from EJB being stolen, but not the bit about stolen to order by ***** (I presume).

Incidentally, my youngest son wants me to buy him 33EJB as it's his initials!

Mark, you are 90% right and 10% wrong. The 1100/1300 did indeed have the small horn button but the Morris Minor used the same centre as the Mini. Same Morris (or Austin) badge, same chrome ring, different bakelite part. I have a Morris Minor wheel which I made into a coffee table.
Oh yes, before anyone wonders about my Austin statement, some of the vans were badged as Austin.

Hi Mark & almondgreen,

Yes GRX 309D had one, when it left England, to go racing at Sebring in 1966.

Eric (its owner) found it, when he went through the list of its former owners/drivers.

Indeed Mark,
Nice picture but I have two questions please :
- looks like a traditional film photography to me, but was it made in the sixties, or more recently - say 10 to 15 years ago ?
Why no co-driver panel ?
- also, what is the purpose of the "Aux/Start" big lever under the driver's dash ?
Cheers,
Etienne

It was a race car not a rally car when that photo was taken of GRX309D back in 1966 and therefore had no need of a navigators dash.

As did many other Works cars from around that period before the Motolita wheel became the wheel of choice.
