This car was never my sort of thing, I thought it would always be best displayed left as it was in a full sized recreation of where it was found, I couldn't see the point of putting it back on the road as it had never been on the road

Yes, agree.

Have some of those thin cloth sheets, with photo print made, using the images, from the tunnel, where it was found.
Then place the body infront of them. That could have been nice.

Bmw should buy it and display it in a full size mock up of the air raid tunnel it was found in

" before you think this is about the money its not"

Strange then that it's going to a high profile self publicised auction instead of being quietly sold off to an enthusiast.

Who cares though really, I liked the story of the Mini in the tunnel in a curious way but the wreck of a car itself is of no particular consequence is it ? This story reminds me of some of the owners of cars that show them all over the place, stick 'em up all over the internet, get a feature in one of the Mini glossies and then surprise surprise...they're for sale in the back the month after.

Good luck to 'em but to say it's not about the money strikes me as somewhat insincere.

The seller went to the trouble of obtaining permission and getting it out the tunnel, so good luck to him in selling it which he has every right to do.......not much anyone can do with it anyway without a major restoration, apart from look and take photos at a couple of shows.....it just a damaged Mini shell at the end of the day, not really an 'iconic part of Mini history' as some 16 year olds who have got rather carried away are saying on TMF.

Great story that I followed from the start. The owner gets to do what he wants, and so does the next one. It would be cool if it went to some museum.

To me, the value is in the story and what it represents. I think that meaning would be diminished by a restoration. So many stories and history have been confused and lost to new panels and paint that it would be nice to see some consideration given to preservation.

Then again, what the hell do I know?

One day someone really is going to offer a decomposing turd in a jam jar that they claim was dropped by Paddy Hopkirk after his Monte victory.

The subteratean rot box is not really my cup of tea, it was a great story, but the actual car is a minimal part of the story.
It will be fun to see what it goes for though :-)

money and cars is a strange one....there seems to consistently be a justification / excuse / apology for selling them.

do like his line - "i love it to bits" - a face only a mother could love, its a scrap clubman ffs!

Now that the "gallery" no longer exists, I sometimes wonder what happened to the Royal Turd that a certain group kept in a glass case - allegedly to remind them that their employer really was human

I wonder if you could buy that, sneak on the longbridge site, dig a hole, bury it and then 'find it' a couple of weeks later.......

that would cook a few noodles

Bidding didn't go as mad as I thought it would! Still too much but going by some auctions lately could have been a lot more.
