Mini/metro hubs.

This is a reverse of the normal question about fitting Metro front hubs to a Mini.

My question, can you fit Mini hubs to a Metro and will it all be usable, you must not ask why I would want to do this, its just that I would like to fit 10" wheels to a Metro subframe. The subframe by the way is not on a Metro, confused!!.

Alternatively will S calipers fit Metro hubs, I will look at this this afternoon but will pose the question anyway.

they will fit, but you would have the problem with the suspension settings moving around (like the mini boys do when they use the metro hubs), but with no off the shelf stuff to walk it back right.

why not just stick with the metro hubs, turn a set of metro vented discs down to 7.9 and use some of those cheap minisport alloy four pots, they clear 10" wheels.

I don't think (but have never done it) normal s discs would clear a metro hub, they are pretty tight on a mini hub

Thanks Guru, thats good information but at the moment I did'nt want to spend a lot of money so I will turn the disc's down to 7.9, keep the Metro hubs and see what I can mix and match, I have some D1's with Yoko 008's on and I would like to use them rather than the Morris 1000!! wheels presently in place, they don't have the look I was after.

Trouble is with the vented disc's I will need the width of a 4 pot caliper won't I, that may bugger my plans up. Lets see what I can find in the garage.

I will post how I get on, give you all a chuckle anyway.

Had a play with the Metro front suspension and trying to fit Mini disc's and calipers, I'm sure you all know the answer. I could persuade the discs to fit over the Metro hubs, just but although the Mini calipers have the same bolt fixing centres the larger casting around the single piston fouled on the back of the hub where it flares out around the CV joint. I would have had to grind too much metal off the hub which would have probably compromised its integrity, besides which there would have been a lot of plumbing changes to the brake lines, as I said I was trying for a cheap alteration.

I also needed to change the CV joint and bearings on one side, not being a Metro man, I assumed, quite wrongly as it turned out that the bearings would be the same as a Mini Ha Ha. So I got some Metro Ball bearings for the hub and fitted them only to find a lot of movement of the wheel once it was all together, no matter what I tried/checked it wobbled so much you would think half of the balls had fallen out, turned out the bearing was made wrong, just my luck and me doing it on the cheap with Chinese/Indian bearings, a replacement set fitted fine. Its the sort of job you just want to be doing the once, not 3 times, ha well I live but don't always learn
