Downton air filter box for twin HS4 ?

Post by almondgreen »

Did Downton sell an airfilterbox for twin HS4 carbs?
I found a test from Motor week in 1971.
There is a 1275GT with hs4s and a box with a Downton badge on it.

No they modified the standard 1 1/4 filterbox to fit. I did the same on my Brothers MK3 S. I have described how to do this many times before.

After better looking. I think it is possible that it is a modified standard box, but it is fitted in a different way, as on your brothers car.
They did not use the elbow pieces, it is bolted direct to the carbs.
I would load up a picture, but have some PC problems.
If anyone will load it up, send me a email adress and the pic will come...

Andreas, it's the set up that Downton (Steve Harris) did on 'Tiger Tim' ie : RAM 777H, with the box bolted direct to the back of the carb bodies.

The normal filter(s) with the road kits eg. "Downton Touring Conversion" circa 1971, were a pair of pancake filters.
