Not Mini but help needed

Post by 36inter »

We are trying to date some photo's for our family history, we were sent this one and given the date of the 1920's, this is plainly not correct but can anyone identify the car, to me it looks late 50's or in the 60's, best shot please men, thanks.

Pete

I'm going to go for either a Humber Sceptre or Super Snipe! The size of the front wheel and overrider is what I'm going on!

Cheers. Tim.

I have gone back and looked at this a few times. My strongest thought is Mk2 Zephyr. The fuzziness of the photo is distorting it a little I think I can make out the correct style hooded headlight surrounds, dropping roofline on the rear door, similar grill shape and what could be the correct shaped bumper and overriders. Possibly it is a later one than shown below (upright park lights instead of round).
Anyone else?

I agree with 665 Mk2 Zephyr because of the long bonnet, very nice car.

The front wheel arch looks much more 'rounded' in the old picture, the zephyr ones nearly flat across the top, may be the old photo, you have to say late 50's during the 60's for the photo though?

The "side line" in the old photo reaches nearly the top of the front wheel arch. Not so on the Zephyr, but otherwise the Zephyr looks nearly correct. Maybe just a different year?

I have to agree with coopertim, i think it is a early 60s Super Snipe ;)
This is a 1964.

I'd go with an early VW Type 3 saloon or estate - the size of wheel/tyre to the arch seems spot on

Good detective work, I think I will go with the VW, it seems to suit the shape the best. Pandora was straight out of the box with that one, now the wife has to identify the people in the photo, they are just as difficult to see as the car.

Thank,

Pete

To me, the windscreen to roofline is wrong on the VW. Let's face it, I don't think there is enough detail in the photo for there to be any chance of identifying the car and at best, it is an educated guess. Good fun though !!

The turn blinker looks right for the VW, and the wheel covers, but like said, the windscreen to roof line may not be correct.

We'd have just as much chance of agreeing.

Whoever took that photograph needed glasses..... desperately.
Hard to say that the human-like forms are even human.
Best of luck in your quest.

Edit: I was going to guess on the automobile shaped object that it was a Humber Super Snipe.....
Not because I can pick out the form but just because I always wanted that to be the answer to a question. :D
