Advice on 1979 Mini

Sorry this is not a Mk1 but it came my way out of the blue and I could'nt say no. I have enough work with my Mk1's and really don't have the time to spend on this car that it deserves. I need some advice as to its worth please. It is an 850 with full service history, 87k on the clock and it is the quietist engine I have ever heard. It has had new wings and front panel at some time, both are still in excellent condition.

It does need a fair bit of welding though, new inner and outer sills, front floor pans by the bulkhead, outer ends of the front cross member, the same on the heel board where the subframe mounts are and some subframe mount work in the boot. It has been welded on the sills previously by a 'garage' who appear to have welded a patch on a patch on a patch to sqeeze it through the MOT.

I think its too good to scrap and would make someone a nice learner car.

Any idea's what I should ask for it.

Deserves to be restored and kept to its standard 850 spec and would no doubt become a rare and highly sought after example of its particular period in the future.....if it gets saved.

Agree, these 70ies Mini,s are getting rare to find in original & complete condition.

I have a 1978 Mini 1000 with the stripy velour sets & all original, just sitting in the garage.

one day it will be restored.

I've always thought that particular shade of brown does seem to have had better rust resisting properties over the other shades in the range at the time.

Unlike the later (early 80s) metalic slime green and blue which had absolutely none.
