Result - love getting free cars!
Used to be given minis to take away for parts and have broken many in better condition than people are now restoring doh! :cry:

Great parts car, especially for free. :D That will have the sliding calipers and four syncro box plus plenty of other booty to sell. I'd carefully remove the displacers and hang onto them.

A friend of my folks (an American guy) worked as a mechanic for our loacl Austin dealers in Yeovil, Zummerzet - he did well buying up the scruffy/rotten traded in 1100's and 1300's for peanuts, pulling the engines out and fitting them to Minis. Mum's 997 Cooper had the engine and box from a 1966 MG fitted, around 1974 ish. No idea what it cost, probably around 20 or 30 quid all in.

This might have been covered before ? but I cant remember :oops: can the 11/1300 displacer type, be used on a Min ?

So would the calipers be a worthwhile upgrade to the mg? Also how about te 4 synchro box? The displaces all look great:D

ok i need some help. ive lost one of my wheel trims:( which im gutted about. however i have the orrigional ones that are full of rust and scabby. now im thinking about painting them. but i dont know what colour. i thought about maybe green like the car? or maybe black? any input is welcome :mrgreen:

No, keep the original 2 piston calipers, much better. The 4 syncro box might be better if it's any good, most have tired 2nd gear syncro though.

Remove all the wheel trims - paint the rims Old English White?

hmm thats a possibility! i like old english white! how about the trim centres in old english white?!

Ok so today i had a little look at turning over the engine on the Austin. i thought id give it a try starting it. i put a charged battery on it and some fresh fuel in the float and would you believe it!!!! it didn't start. :lol: no spark. ah well at least it all turns over nice. ill pull the engine out tomorrow hopefully. although probably not:P
a little change id been hoping to make was to get rid of the leather gearknob. ive looked online and they are around a tenner. but then i had a sudden thought i wonder whats on the austin!! so this happened

awesome! its stinking dirty and thick with oil so after a quick clean im left with this.

landed with that:D so as soon as the rain stops ill be putting this in the mg.

Yep that's right! Throttle cable snapped. Ahwel never mind. There was a brand new cable in the boot of my Austin! Winner. And a quick nice piccy:D

ok so started stripping the austin 1100 last weekend. and heres the pics to prove it!

I organized a little classic car gathering a week or so ago. Just me and a couple of mates out for a pint:) great to see the looks we were getting!

Nice day! My other mate is quite into his old fords( I'm doing my best to convert him:p) I went to his house and he asked if I fancied a spin in his recently back in the road mk 2 fiesta. I of course said yes. We made it around 2 miles before we had to get picked up and I had to go rescue him:D

This bank holiday weekend just gone I went camping with my sister and her two boys. Cracking weekend. BBQ, camping And family. What more could one ask for?

Awesome. Unfortunately all did not end well. Any one remember me saying I should really change my front suspension Displacer? I bet you can guess where this is going? Yep your right. It burst. Unfortunately it crushed my inner wing a bit aswel:(

Ok I've changed the front suspension unit. Bloody hell it's such an easy job! I was expecting a nightmare but i was done in 30 mins! Couple of pics of the front unit next to the replacement.

Also I've made a few little adjustments to the exterior of the mg:D ill let the pics do the talking.

Yellow! I love it! May do the headlights aswel. Not sure yet may swap and do just the headlights? Opinions?:D that's all for now.

Oo thanks mate ill look into it:D for now though I've borrowed a pump from a mate and got her sitting pretty. Now I know my next mod might not be to everyone's taste but I like it and whatever I do is all reversible:) see if you can spot it because its quite subtle :lol:

ive never seen a displacer fail like that, its quite impressive!

Yes, that was some "failure" :shock:
wonder if the displacers in the landcrabs looked like this, when they gave in, on the rallies in Africe / Australia - etc ?

I've noticed several different shift knobs on this one. The 3-ball seems ok to me.
