Basically, anything from the block or rocker cover vented to atmosphere through a trap (like the one bolted to the transfer case behind the clutch housing), and anything left open on the inlet manifold was plugged. The big giveaway from me was the incredible suction felt with one's hand over the oil filler when the engine was revved, nearly took me with itmg1100guy wrote:thank you! so what did you do with the pipework on your when you removed that? i did wonder what the hell it was! thought it might have been one of them magical fuel savers you see on ebay. haha

What a great car - Just a bigger Mini-Cooper really
I had a couple of Morris 1100s in the 1970s but always fancied an MG or Riley version. We did rob the engine out of a rusty MG 1100 once at work and put it in our Mini Pick-up. That created a good runabout..... Rusty 1100s were around in great numbers then.
Those rubber couplings do give trouble sometimes but their death is hastened by driving with the suspension too low as you've found!
Great to see one again and remarkable that all your problems seem to have been mechanical. Most of these rusted away years ago. Have fun with it.

How interesting these cars are, specially for me as it appears of only two pre production cars, I had seen the white one before it was registered. Does Bill773mini know if there are any still running in Chilli? did they go on to produce the bodies over there themselves? and who laid up that white car, I presume PSF would have contracted that out, and what was it doing at Vortz. Always had a soft spot for the 1100/1300, the 2 door Riley 1300 in I think 'Grampian grey' was always my favourite.

What a refreshing thread, takes me back to when owning classic cars was so much more fun, before it became a 'p*ssing competition' ! Who hasn't had a remote drop on their head ? Brill, I've always hankered for a sooped up two door , and they're still cheap !

Your dead right Pete, this is what classic car ownership was supposed to be, pure nostalia, not how fat is your cheque book, make the door shuts better than they left the factory. I love the recycle old original parts make it work side of old car ownership. The result is so rewarding and the car has so much soul.

glad you all like it. ill be honest i didnt want this mg when i bought it im a triumph dolomite kind of guy myself and i have had many and still own a 1500 thats currently getting a sprint engine. but after driving the mg for around a year and a half i now think its great! its just so quirky and fun. but my dolly is still my first love even if the mg gets more attention. which kind of bugs me because ive spent a damn fortune on the dolly haha. heres a couple of pics:)

Great motor, nice to see it getting used - my mk1 mini is sitting waiting for the salted roads to disappear. Saw a guy having great fun driving a Minor Traveller in heavy snow last Friday
I know its all personal taste but in my humble opinion the car is being ruined by those modern spot lights and covers - nice period chrome set would suit it sooooooooooo much better!

A very interesting car, & all credit to you to keep it in daily use, seeing your MG brings back many memories, some good, some not quite so good, I used to work for a Leyland dealer & it was my job to re-structure 1100's which had suffered the dreaded rot & been traded in. I always had more enthusiasm for rebuilding the MG version, it seemed so much more of a car with the twin SU's & MG heritage behind it. Good luck to you, I hope you get many more years of service & enjoyment from your MG.

brilliant , reminds me of my grandpa"s mg, still got the motor out of it, my other grandpa had a 1300 gt, and me old fellah ran a vanden plas 1300 until 8 or ten years ago, great to see it being used ,

Ok so basically i was sitting in the McDonald's drive through when some guy came and stood by the front of my mg. I was a bit spun out until I pulled forward and he said that he had a mk 11 Austin 1100 in his garden that if i needed parts in was welcome to strip it. I of course said well how much would you want for the whole car. The very nice guy replied with " if you come and get it you can have it"
Well I was off straight away arranging collection. I went up next day and frees off the front wheels with a hammer and wd40:D the next set of pics should speak for themselves:)
This is how I found it in his garden. Been of the road 12 years after an accident his wife had in it
After a little bit I uncovering we find this.
We managed to get it out of his back garden to this point ready for me to come back ith the truck.
Then I came back with a lorry.
It's following me!
And parked next to the mg!
Mine is only on stable because the wheels are on the Austin because its tyres were so dead it wouldn't roll
And it's new home until its stripped for parts for mine:D

ok so today i thought id have a go at changing the door cards and giving them a good clean. so here is the austin door.
and once removed
i then set about giving it a quick clean with degreaser/cleaning stuff from the cupboard and came up with this.

not too bad i dont think. i then set about taking the mg door card off.

and thats as far as i got before i hit problems. as the austin and mg are the same car i just assumed that it would have the fittings behind the door card. simalar sort of thing to the dolomite 1300/1500 seats and hl/sprint seats. just tape hiding the holes. but no. i can drill the holes but cant be bothered in this horrible weather so i just put my card back on and started cleaning all the stuff (and spiders :snivel: ) out of the car and this is what i found.
lovely clean original grille.
an old brand new 9v battery
some old spanish?? coins
new brake pedal rubber 8)
new dizzy cap 8)
new water hose
two 1100/1300 manuals
i also thought this was pretty cool. its a tub of demister. seen better days though i think!
now this is the best bit. old green shield stuff!
and some other petrol station stuff
and thats it for now!
