Knock On Wire Wheels for Minis
Knock On Wire Wheels for Minis
Whilst at Race Retro last Sunday I spotted these.
They measure 4.5x10" and have an alloy rim with stainless spokes. They feature a hub which bolts directly to the existing hub flange/brake drum and then teh wheel is attached to the hub with the knock off nut. They are also available with painted mild steel spokes and inner wheel rim.
However these do not come cheap, at £800 each I think they are going to be quite exclusive.
If you are interested here's the contact details and some pictures of how they look.

Re: Knock On Wire Wheels for Minis
Yes, I saw these at the NEC Classic Car Show last November when they were introduced - and the kind chap trying to sell them really was looking for our support (Mini Cooper Register) and views on these wheels. I could only say much the same in that wire wheels look great 'on the right car' - but sadly, in my opinion, a Mini isn't one of them. Now, knock off Minilites, that's different altogether!

Not my cup of tea. They simply look too busy as such a small wheel. I hope the firm succeeds in selling them enough sets but I am not sure who their market will be.

The trouble is they're on such a small scale they make a Mini look like a pram !

Re: Knock On Wire Wheels for Minis
there isn't enough room for the spokes, so it looks like there are hardly any there.
They look like the sort of thing that would have been fitted to coachbuilt minis in the '60s or 70's, but can't see many selling.

I have seen a Wood & Pickett with wire wheels, that was 61 APW, who is on the cover of the 1st edition, of Peter Philbys Mini book.Pandora wrote:

61 APW now have normal wheels on, looks much better
Those wire wheels are not my coup of tea either.

Think the 'Light Alloy' bit is interesting , i had hold of one today, would say they are twice as heavy as a standard 4.5 'S' rim.

Re: Knock On Wire Wheels for Minis
I had a Mini just like that one when I was a kid. It wasn't a works one like yours though Pete. You could tell, because it didn't have the rosette sticker.
